Sunday updates on community recovery

CURFEW

There will be a curfew again Sunday starting at 9 p.m. until 5 am. The curfew only applies to the downtown area and other storm-impacted areas. The south side of town is not part of the storm zone.

MARSHALLTOWN COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Counseling services

Marshalltown Community School District school counselors and Center Associates counselors will provide counseling services from July 23-27 for those children and families affected by the tornado.

They will be at Marshalltown High School, 1602 S. Second Ave., in the counseling offices from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, July 23 through Thursday, July 26 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, July 27. Counselors will also be available to help direct those who need additional resources.

Summer School program to continue

Summer school, also known as Bobcat University, will continue as normally scheduled at these school sites on Monday, July 23 including Anson Elementary School, Fisher Elementary School and Hoglan Elementary School.

STEM Camp at Anson will also take place as normally scheduled.

Marshall County Landfill hours set

Sunday Hours: 9 a.m.-5p.m.

Weekday Hours: 8a.m.-7p.m.

Storm debris loads need to be covered.

Debris dropped off by residents will be free of charge.

CITY HALL/MPD

City Hall, 911 and Marshalltown PD has lost email and non-emergency phone communication.

911 lines are operational and are being answered by the state police. Work is being done to restore non-emergency and admin phone lines.

PARKING REQUESTS

If you can park off street, please do so. The city needs the roads open for utility vehicles, emergency vehicles and public works crews. Please do not park near debris piles. Street crews are trying to clear roads and cannot do so with the parked vehicles in the street.

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

If you want to volunteer, report to the Hy-Vee parking lot and contact the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is in this lot and will take names of people who wish to volunteer.

If you need help from volunteers, do the same thing. The Salvation Army will then match volunteers with people who need help.

You must go to the Hy-Vee parking lot and meet with the Salvation Army.

ASSISTANCE FOR SENIORS

– Bickford Cottage, 101 Newcastle Road, has availability both in Marshalltown as well as our Urbandale and West Des Moines branches for displaced seniors. Transportation and moving assistance is available to assist those in need. For more information please contact Bianca Greazel, director, at 641-328-9304 or 641-753-5700.

– Glenwood Place is accomodating displaced seniors of Marshalltown. For additional information, please call Brooke at Glenwood Place. 641-752-8410.

A sister company to Glenwood Place in Ankeny also has immediate availability. Edencrest of Siena Hills in Ankeny also has immediate available apartments for Seniors in our area. We can provide transportation if needed. If you or your loved one is a senior and have been displaced by the Marshalltown tornado, please reach out to Glenwood Place at 641-752-8410.

UNITYPOINT HEALTH – MARSHALLTOWN

Outpatient testing – Laboratory and Radiology will be operational Monday at the South Campus – Medical Park.

Elective surgeries and procedures scheduled for Monday on the main campus have been canceled. All services and departments on the main hospital campus will remained closed until further notice.

A structural engineer will be on site Monday for a structural assessment.

McFARLAND CLINIC

McFarland Clinic, 312 E. Main St., in Marshalltown will not be operational on Monday as additional structural assessments are confirmed.

Providers from the Main Street Clinic will be seeing their patients at the McFarland Southside Office on Monday. Staff will be contacting patients with Monday appointments directly over the weekend.

DONATIONS

MICA has set up a donation page on its website. It is for a fund called Marshalltown Family Tornado Relief. When people go to the website they will receive a popup asking if they want to donate to this fund. There will also be a banner they click to take them to the donation. It can be accessed at www.micaonline.org. Just click on Marshalltown Family Tornado Relief.

COURT

The Marshall County Clerk of Court Office will be closed Monday. All court hearings scheduled at the courthouse for June 23 are canceled. Litigants will be notified as to when their cases have been rescheduled. Jurors summoned for service July 23 do not need to report.

On Tuesday the Marshall County civil division will be in the Story County Clerk of Court Office, 1315 South B Avenue, Nevada; and the criminal and traffic divisions and magistrate hearings will be in Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, 2369 Jessup Avenue, Marshalltown.
