Man charged with sex abuse violates pre-trial release

Gonzalez

A Des Moines man who had been charged earlier this year by the Marshalltown Police Department for sex with an underage girl violated pre-trial conditions and was arrested by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and taken to the Marshall County Jail.

Justo Gonzalez, 20, was arrested Saturday on a warrant during a traffic stop, MCSO Chief Deputy Joel Phillips said. Additionally, he was charged with driving while license under suspension, no valid drivers license and speeding.

Gonzalez allegedly had sex with the victim in September of 2016, when the girl was 12 and at the defendant’s residence.

“The incident was reported to us Dec. 8, 2017,” said Capt. Brian Batterson of the MPD. “Detectives investigated it as a case of a sexual assault by an adult with someone of age 12 or under. We interviewed the victim and the suspect, and gathered enough evidence for a charge of sexual abuse-third degree.”

Gonzalez is being held on $10,000 cash-only bond, according to Marshall County District Court records. Sexual abuse third degree is a Class C felony.
