UNI remains in must-win mode
CEDAR FALLS — Northern Iowa can likely secure itself another berth in the FCS playoffs with a win today over South Dakota State.
Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. inside the UNI-Dome.
Thanks to their win over Iowa State earlier in the year, the Panthers (5-5 overall, 4-3 in Missouri Valley Conference) remain a likely candidate to grab an at-large playoff berth if they can defeat the eighth-ranked Jackrabbits (7-3, 6-1).
UNI has qualified for the postseason 18 times, including seven trips to the semifinals and one national championship game berth — which came under head coach Mark Farley.
Michael Malloy ran for a season-high 92 yards on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns in a win over Western Illinois last Saturday. Eli Dunne returned under center, completing 19 of 27 for 209 yards and two scores, hitting Jalen Rima four times for 79 yards.
South Dakota State earned a win earlier this year over defending national champion North Dakota State, meaning they can clinch the league title with a win. The Bison (9-1, 6-1) travel to South Dakota.
SDSU is led by quarterback Taryn Christion, who ranks first in the conference at 309.7 passing yards per game and first in pass efficiency at 156.4. They also lead the league in points per game at 36.6.
