Green Mountain-Garwin Wolverines took a 4-game victory over the East Marshall Mustangs on their home court 15-4, 14-16, 15-7 and 15-9 as Steph Furrow served 18-of-19 with four aces and Carrie Boldt went 16-of-20 with seven aces while Angie Sandquist hit 14-of-15 spikes for four aces and Mary Langenbau hit all 14 of her spikes for 11 aces.

MHS girls’ swim team led by Meredith Johnson’s four wins in the 50-yd. freestyle, the 100 freestyle and both the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams defeated Mason City 58-44.

Eight members of the MHS cheer squad earned the Universal Cheerleader Association All-Star rating in competition during the summer break: Amy Lander, Katie Smith, Jelissa Clark, Dena Stone, Amy Mount, Chris Miller, Jim Sutherland and Ben Miller.

Marshalltown Community College sophomore forward Arkenson Neckels was named the National Junior College Athletic Association Div. 1 men’s soccer Player of the Week when he shattered the national record for amount of goals scored in one game by scoring 13, the old record was nine.

The Gold Award, highest award in Girl Scouts, was presented to Brandi Boriskey. To earn the award, a girl has to design and carry out a plan of activities covering community services, career exploration, specialized interest projects and leadership skills. She also received a plaque from the House of Representatives District 72.

The Green Mountain Mounties blitzed Moulton-Udell 11-0 in five innings as Tim Odle produced two hits, Bob Hessenius had two hits and two RBIs and Paul Krough had a double with two RBIs.

The West Marshall Trojanettes defeated NESCO 5-1 and advanced to Regional action in fall softball action as Teri Zink led the offense with two hits.

GMG rolled up 328 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in the 53-14 victory over Springville as Wade Raymond led the Wolverines with 197 yards on the ground and two touchdowns and Brad Holloway added two rushing touchdowns and 47 yards receiving for a score along with an interception.

Tammy Nauman, a 1991 MHS graduate, was appointed a full time, live-in nanny for a Pennsylvania family with two boys ages six and seven for a one-year commitment.

Zach Underhill, 12, of Le Grand, Brooke Borton, 13, of Marshalltown, and Troy Cannon, 12, of Marshalltown, all harvested an eight-point buck with Borton and Cannon getting theirs in their first season and Underhill scoring his with a muzzle loader.

The Bobcat girls’ swim team beat Urbandale 109-77 as Lesa Reynolds nailed the diving competition and the relay teams of: Tara Sondall, Heather Rouse, Shelley Stanley and Stacey Spooner and Alexa Howard, Shelly Brueggeman, Stephanie Neuroth and Staci Nelson went one and two in the 200 freestyle.

West Marshall softball defeated Sheffield-Chapin 2-1 and advanced to the Fall State Tournament after Julie Gaunt broke the 1-1 tie with a seventh inning hit to score the winning run which was pretty good for being crowned queen of homecoming earlier in the day.
