Marshalltown High School tracksters had four top 10 finishes at the Dickinson Relays: Ethan Blagg, seventh in 1600 meter run; Kellyn Fogarty, ninth in the 200 meter run and anchored the ninth finish in the 4×200 relay and Ian MacMillan ninth in the 800 meter run.

Matt Goodman, 14, of State Center, was the 1993 Marshalltown City Cribbage Champion with a score of 962 out of 968 for the eight games.

Lydia Martin and Jill Lageschulte finished 10th in the 1500 meter run and 11th in the 3000 meter run, respectively, for the best finishes at the Dickinson Relays for the MHS girls.

Spark Clark, 1991 MHS graduate as Chad Clark, founded a new music group called Steel Rain based in North Hollywood that consisted of Chris Julian, lead vocals and acoustical guitar; Damon Gold, bass and second vocal; Matt Hennager, lead guitar and Clark on drums and keyboards. The band’s style was New Orleans blues with a hard rock rhythm section.

The Bobcats 880 and 440 relay teams of Scott Kilstrom, George Naughton, Mike Jorgensen and Emmet Huston set new records at the A.D. Dickinson Relays as they won the 880 in 1:31:29 and the 440 relay in a time of .44.2.

Students from Deb’s Dance World qualified in the “I Love Dance” Pageant for the National Championship: Janis Huff, Jillissa Clark, Keely Casady, Tanya Neisess, Anne Bloom and Melissa Bayer.

A trumpet quartet featured at the Lenihan Junior High Spring Concert consisted of: Doug Sheldon, Todd Doyle, Robin Lowman and Kim Pedersen.

AGWSR junior Jessica McDowell was named first All-State in girl’s basketball by the Iowa Coaches Association after averaging 13.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

Five musicians were recipients of Tuesday Musical Club Scholarships: Wiebke Bonicke, flute; Danielle Septer, piano; Amy Bradbury, violin; Mary K. Yokum, cello, winner of the Margaret Glick Memorial Scholarship; and Emily Reese, winner of the C. Aubrey Smith Memorial Scholarship on trumpet.

The Central Iowa Christian Academy in Marshalltown ended its basketball season during the first round of the first annual American Association of Christian Schools National Tournament with a 26-3 record ranking them sixth in the nation.

North Tama twins Brooke and Blaire Dinsdale both won a pair of events at the Simpson High School Classic as Blaire won the 400 meter dash and 400 hurdles and Brooke took first in the 800 meter and the 3000 meter run.

Having fun in the first warm day of spring were Melody Nichols, 6, and her cousin Sarah Mauk, 5, as they played on the monkey bars at Fisher Elementary.

Unit “C” students Deann Ruport, Angi Badgley, Lynne Borton, Rich Drummer, Craig Henze and Kent McKibben demonstrated one of the acts they performed for the Albion PTA based on movement and dance.

Senior group media winners on History Day were Melanie Gossett and Wintress Ryan, juniors at West Marshall High School, who took first place for their video entry entitled “Signs of Communication.”

Kevin Koepnick, LDF senior, portrayed Prof. Harold Hill in the LDF production of Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man” with Deb Powers, senior, as Marian the Librarian.

ROTC Cadet James Cutler, of Colo, was awarded an AFROTC incentive scholarship at Iowa State University which allowed him to receive up to $2,000 per year for tuition, books and fees.

Winners of the Marshalltown Library Reading Contest for first through third grade was Donna Carr and for fourth through sixth grade was Mary Leschin who also won a copy of Dorothy Francis’ “Adventure of Riverton Zoo” book personally presented by the author.
