Janet Soorholtz, of rural Melbourne and a West Marshall FFA member, showed the grand champion at the Summer Steer and Heifer Show at the Central Iowa Fair in the 1,180 pound Simmental-Hereford crossbred calf.

In a double header the Marshalltown High School girls defeated Cedar Falls 14-4 in the opener and 12-1 in the nightcap as freshman Erin McElroy threw a solid six innings in the first and Rianne Pfaltzgraff led the offense at the plate in both games.
