Marshalltown High School girls’ cross country squad was crowned the champs at the Norwalk Invitational as Lydia Martin was the individual champion and Emily Hunt came in third.

Peyton Mannan, a seventh grade student at GMG, took second place in her 4-H sewing project on the dress she entered at the Iowa State Fair.

Scott Boston, with the help of another Troop 317 member, Conner Reynolds, put the finishing touches on his Eagle Scout project of building a seating area in front of MHS complete with benches and greenery just in time for the homecoming dance.

James Hinshaw, a freshman at the University of Iowa, has a collection of paintings and drawings submitted to the Iowa High School Art Exhibit which earned him a full tuition Paula Patton Grahame scholarship.

Willy Tan and Taylor Gaffney were crowned the 2008 MHS homecoming king and queen in a Roundhouse ceremony on Oct. 9.

The GMG Wolverines raced past Dike-New Hartford 26-14 as Darin Welton led the offense with 108 yards on 14 carries and Tim Mull led the defense with 18 tackles.

Jaycin Cross, 5, of Liscomb, and Anthony Garrison, 10, of Toledo, took first and second place in their age groups at the Athletes vs. MS karate an judo tournament in Rock Island, Ill.

West Marshall’s Drake Ferch rushed for 320 yards on 35 carries to score five touchdowns in the 47-34 victory over Bondurant-Farrar.

MHS boys’ golf squad benefitted from Pat Quernemoen’s 73 medalist score that clinched second place in the Central Iowa Metro League’s National Conference Meet.

The MHS girls’ cross country squad finished the dual with Cedar Falls in the top five positions with Sue Eichorn as the winner followed by Christy Calkins, Val Sharp, Patty Fisher and Marcia Mann to win 15-30.

MHS junior quarterback Chanse Creekmur broke the school record for completions in the losing performance against Ames with 32 passes out of 50 attempts completed for 315 yards.

The BCLUW Comets volleyball squad rolled past South Tama 15-2, 15-9 and 15-4 as Shannan Kadner finished with 16 kills and Jane Smith hit all 13 of her serves including an ace.

A three-act play titles “Off the Track” featured off the wall scenes starring junior high students Bill Havelka, Allen Burt, Jane Eckles and Julie Ross.

Presidential elections were held at Miller Middle School and Anson Middle School with Miller Co-Presidents Grant Bousum and Jill Lura winning and Phillip Henning and Samantha Gervich chosen Co-Presidents from Anson.

The MHS boys’ cross country team took fourth place at districts led by senior co-captain Todd Arnold who finished third and secured a team spot in the state meet.
