West Marshall captured the intra-county rivalry volleyball game over East Marshall in the first round of Class 2A Region 7 action with scores of 25-16, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19 as Alexa Hotopp led the Trojans with 11 kills and three blocks.

The Comets of BCLUW captured the Class 1A sectional volleyball championship with a three game win over North Tama of 15-9, 15-12 and 15-12 as Deanna Beeghly led the way hitting all of her 16 serves with five aces.

In the Bobcats final home game, the football team upset Cedar Falls 25-22 as Dean Fogarty led the team on the ground with 125 yards on 11 carries.

Marshalltown High School junior varsity swimmers piled up seven gold medals against Fort Dodge with Leah Stahlin capturing three wins: 200 yard freestyle, 500 yard freestyle and the 200 yard medley relay with Stacia Kluever, Mikalie McClain and Carrie Bell; the 200 yard relay freestyle of McClain, Kluever, Hannah Carter and Desiree Determan followed by Alix Stewart’s 50 yard freestyle win.

Both Bobcat cross country teams came away with second place finishes in the district meet to secure a berth at the state meet as Michelle Peter led the girls with an eighth place finish while Charlie Kelly was edged out at the end for a second place finish.

The East Marshall Mustangs wrapped up a fourth straight undefeated home season with a 28-7 win over Colfax-Mingo-Baxter as Chad Hamiel ran for 126 yards and three touchdowns.

MHS swim team set four new marks at the Big Eight Meet finishing in fifth place as the 200-yard medley team of Kathy Ryden, Deb Wuest, Cindy Whitehill and Leslie Lytle set a new pool record, a new meet record and a new conference record finishing in a time of 2:00.01.

Lenihan Intermediate School sixth grade student Bryce King was selected to sing in the Opus Honor Choir at Iowa State University.

MHS sophomore football team ripped Mason City 45-6 as quarterback Aaron Tecklenburg led on the ground with 102 yards, scored a running touchdown and had two passing touchdowns a two-point conversion pass.

Prizes awarded in the Bike Ride for Diabetes included a tape recorder for Paul Rober and a new bicycle for Mike Jones for collecting the most money of $408.04 below the eighth grade.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team hoisted the annual rivalry trophy defeating Grundy Center 14-0 that scored second place in the Class 1A District 3 standings and a berth in the newly created substate finals.

MHS volleyball girls cruised to an easy victory over Clear Lake in the first round of Class 2A districts with a 15-4, 15-11 and 15-1 win as Jaimie Deibert, Rebecca Albert and Amy Trowbridge led the ‘Cats.

North Tama’s Dylan Youel’s first two short touchdowns gave the Class A No. 2 Redhawks just the edge needed for the 28-14 win over North Mahaska in the season finale to finish off the perfect season.

MHS swimmers closed out the season with a big win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson with a score of 105-61 as Annfrid Trollvik, of Norway, had her best day as a Bobcat swimmer winning the 100 yard butterfly which got her named “Swimmer of the Week” by her teammates.
