The Marshalltown High School boys’ swim team defeated Grinnell 101-69 while recording 16 life-time bests including three by John Ryan.

The East Marshall Mustangs rolled to a couple of dual wins as they whipped Tri-County 66-12 and Gladbrook-Reinbeck/North Tama 42-27 as Rob Baker, Eric Burchland, Jon Wolken, Chad Hamiel, Ray Ferrari, Jake Dolash and Pat Lyle each got two victories.

The Green Mountain boys zapped United 69-44 and the girls won 66-53 as Doug Urhammer with 23 points was the top scorer for the boys and Rhonda Groth and Leslie Smith tied for top honors with 27 points each.

Marshalltown Community College sophomore Abby Horbach, of Toledo, was selected as an All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association, one of two setters on the Division II volleyball second team.

The MHS boys’ swim team sank Mason City 95.5-79.5 with Chris Roush, Jason Hill and Charlie Kelly winning individual events as Kelly captured the 200 yard individual medley with a season-best time; Roush won the 100 backstroke and Hill took the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle.

The MHS girls’ basketball squad held on to defeat Cedar Falls 56-52 as three girls scored in double figures to lead the offense: Angie Jensen scored 22 points; Donna Buchwald had 18 and Shari Wolfs dropped in 12 points.

The Green Mountain boys improved their record to 5-1 after defeating Grundy Center 80-57 with Jerrid Ware hitting 23 points followed by teammate Mike Healey with 18, Nathan Farnsworth with 15 and seven rebounds and Tim Mull with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

MHS boys romped over Ottumwa 77-50 which put them at 5-1 on the year and into the Holiday Tournament championship game against Des Moines Hoover as Scott Hughes and Dan Clayton each scored 13 points.
