P.E.O. Chapter celebrates 120 Years

P.E.O. Chapter BB of Marshalltown will celebrate 120 continuous years of existence at an afternoon tea on May 21 at the Historic Tallcorn Towers Ballroom.

The chapter was established after two women met in 1895. Cornelia Singleton, a nurse and wife of an ophthalmologist, and a teacher, Nettie Simpson, found six other P.E.O. sisters and organized on May 21, 1897. Singleton was a 50-year member of Chapter BB at the time of her death on May 21, 1947. She was 84 years old.

“Those attending will be entertained and inspired,” according to Chapter President Mary Kenagy. She said, “Beth Ledbetter, president of the International Chapter of P.E.O., will be the featured speaker. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet her. There will also be an entertaining historical presentation along with a few musical numbers.” Reservations are $20 per person and may be mailed to Miriam Bryant at 202 E. Church St., Marshalltown, Iowa, 50158. For questions call Bryant at 641-691-0251 or 641-752-6664.
