Public invited to IWARN Field Day

PARKERSBURG — Iowa Wireless Amateur Radio Network is a group of ham radio operators from Butler, Franklin, Hardin, Grundy, Marshall and Tama Counties. IWARN invites the public to join in the annual Field Day event from 1 p.m. on June 24 through 1 p.m. on June 25 at Miracle Park and American Legion Building in Parkersburg.

Field Day is an exercise we use to help improve amateur radio operators’ emergency communication skills and demonstrate to the public what IWARN does. An informational table will be available from 1-4 p.m. on June 24, but the public is welcome at any time to see what ham radio is all about.

The ARRL Field Organization has been effective in establishing emergency communications nets during floods, hurricanes, fires, earthquakes, terrorist attacks and other major disasters, whether they be local, regional or national in scope. This ability is entirely due to the willingness to volunteer and the readiness of amateurs across the country. Amateur Radio Emergency Service and Radio Amateur Communication Emergency Services members regularly participate in Field Day so they will be ready when called.

Any questions can be directed to Jennifer Strohbehn (KEØBIT), IWARN public information officer, at ke0bit@arrl.org.
