East Marshall bats did the talking in the 12-5 victory over Dike-New Hartford as they registered 11 hits with Alyssa Whitmore, Kaci Hoskey and Vanessa Clemens each recording two hits.

East Marshall pitcher Eric Stevens pitched the Mustangs to a 10-1 romp over Hubbard-Radcliffe as he struck out 11 and walked one as the defense played errorless ball to back Stevens up.

The West Marshall Trojanettes blasted Marshalltown High School 12-0 and trounced previously unbeaten Green Mountain 11-0 in the championship game to win the Rose Festival Tournament as pitcher Cindy Freese struck out 11 in the MHS game and 10 in the Green Mountain game.

The MHS softball team broke its slump with a 13-3 win over Knoxville as Jordan Loney finished with three hits scoring four runs and two RBIs with teammates Whitney Sowers, Sam Mitchell and Dani Coronado each adding two hits.

State Center’s 1993 Rose Festival Queen Amy Schau was crowned by the 1992 Rose Queen Stacey Karsjen during Rose Festival ceremonies.

Jerry Rohach smashed two home runs, one a grand slam and the other a two-run shot and drove in another run with a single to lead Garwin to a 23-16 win over United of Boone.

Green Mountain pitcher Paul Krough continued his domination of Ta-Ma-Ja Conference baseball teams as he pitched a three-hitter striking out a career high 17 batters to lead the Mounties to a 6-1 win over LDF as Steven Groth led the offense with three base hits.

MHS softball wrapped up its tournament with a 28-hit day as the ‘Cats defeated Gladbrook-Reinbeck 13-3 ad Des Moines Christian 12-2.

East Marshall sophomore pitcher David Slingluff fanned nine batters on the Mustangs way to its six consecutive win as they defeated BCLUW 11-2 while freshman Blaine Wauters led the offense going 5-for-5 and scoring two RBIs.

Jan Ziskovsky, of Toledo, a 1978 graduate of South Tama High School, was installed as grand worthy associate advisor of Iowa Rainbow Girls at the Grand Assembly in Ames.

The Gladbrook-Reinbeck FFA chapter were named Champion team at the annual Iowa FFA Food Science Career Development Event. The winning team consisted of: Brook Wagner, Lorianna Scarf, Arielle Bereczki and Judy Lohse.

Adam Thurston, of MHS, was one of 22 Iowa high school students selected to attend the 1993 Summer Space Science and Engineering Program from June 20-July 9.

MHS softball player Su Stonewall made a running catch and threw to first base to snag the runner for a double play that ended the cliffhanger with Grundy Center as the ‘Cats won 5-4.
