• Christina Marie Vanwaardhuizen made an initial appearance on a operating while under the influence-first offense charge, a unlawful possession of a prescription drug charge, a failure to stop in the assured, clear distance charge, a leaving the scene of an accident charge and a no insurance-accident charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 28. Vanwaardhuizen is released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Armando Lopez made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 28. Lopez is released on his promise to appear.

• Hector Yanez Flores made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a driving under suspension charge, a no valid driver’s license charge and a no insurance charge. The court dismissed the charges with court costs of $180 assessed, due within 30 days.

• Martin Minjares Bonilla made an initial appearance on a failure to maintain control charge and a no insurance-accident charge. Bonilla pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 4 in the Magistrate Court.

• Brennan Cole Johnson made an initial appearance on a criminal mischief-fifth degree charge. Johnson pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 4 in the Magistrate Court.

• Susan Brafford made an initial appearance on a theft-fourth degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 28. Brafford is released on her promise to appear. The court ordered that Brafford be photographed and fingerprinted by 4:30 p.m. today at the Marshalltown Police Department.

• Livianette Guzman Correa made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a failure to yield to a vehicle on the right charge, a no valid driver’s license charge and a no insurance-accident charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 4 in Magistrate Court.

• Javier Lemus Cisneros made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge and two counts of a driving while barred charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 18 for the driving charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 4 in Magistrate Court for the theft charge. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only for the driving charge and Lemus Cisneros is released on his promise to appear for the theft charge.

• Logan Calkins made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge, a possession of a Scheduled IV controlled substance charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge, a no valid driver’s license charge and a littering charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 18. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days of release.

Incidents

• On Thursday, Sept. 7, a report was filed with the Marshalltown Police Department of a trespass on Woodland Street.

• On Thursday, Sept. 7, a burglary of an unoccupied motor vehicle was reported.

Arrests

• On Thursday, Karen Rasmussen was arrested for trespass.

• On Thursday, Tammica Summers was arrested for possession of marijuana-first offense, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance and operating while under the influence-first offense.

• On Thursday, Javier Lemus Cisneros was arrested for driving while barred and theft-fifth degree.

• On Thursday, Addison Demarr was arrested for possession of marijuana-first offense.

• On Thursday, Logan Calkins was arrested for possession of marijuana-first offense, possession of Scheduled IV controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• On Thursday, Christina Salsberry was arrested for unlawful possession of a prescription drug.

Accidents

• On Wednesday, a car driven by Leigh Ann Price, of Eldora, was northbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer which entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Price car was estimated at $1,500.

• On Sunday, a vehicle driven by Jame Frederick Allen, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway causing the vehicle to spin into the median. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Allen vehicle was estimated at $1,900.

• On Saturday, a vehicle driven by Madison Beth Reyes, of Union, was northbound on Hopkins Avenue when it attempted to pass a vehicle driven by Robert Eugene Kern, of Oakland, Ark., which was in the process of making a left turn into a private driveway and a collision occurred. No injuries were reported. Reyes was cited for unsafe passing. Damage to the Reyes vehicle was estimated at $500 while the Kern vehicle received an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Sept. 3

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the 100 block of North Third Avenue and eight medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1402 Brentwood Terrace, 1606 W. State St., 112 N. First St., 9 E. Ingledue St., 18 W. Berle Road, 1704 S. Fifth St., 311 Thunderbird Drive, and 1705 Country Club Lane.

Sept. 2

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an extrication of victims from vehicle on Oaks Avenue, a false alarm at 702 S. 12th Ave., and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 15 N. 11th Ave., 302 N. Sixth St., and 1211 W. State St.

Sept. 1

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 7 E. High St., 706 W. Linn St., 10 W. Main St., 111 S. Third Ave., and 401 N. First St.

Aug. 31

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a gas leak at 11 W. Grant St., an unauthorized burning at 10 E. Grant St., an alarm system sounded due to malfunction at 1315 W. Main St., an outside rubbish fire at 506 Woodbury St., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: two to 113 Bohen St., 208 N. 12th Ave., and 403 S. Second St.

Aug. 30

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to 915 W. Merle Hibbs Blvd., and 14 medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1112 E. Olive St., South Third Avenue, two to 3202 S. 12th St., 609 N. First Ave., 710 S. Third Ave., 206 W. Grant St., 304 1/2 S. Second Ave., 403 E. Southridge Road, 3700 S. Center St., 102 S. 11th St., 1714 S. Fourth St., 209 E. High St., and 122 W. Main St.

Aug. 29

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 201 E. Main St., 514 E. Olive St., 2 N. Second Ave., 617 Swayze St., 402 N. 10th Ave., 507 N. Fourth St., and 202 N. Second Ave.
