• In the Lincoln Welding Contest, Danville had four winners. Randy Young and David Shoemaker placed third in the nation and each received $250 and a welder; and Kole Perkins and Brandon McLeland both placed third in the region, each receiving $100. • Good People, Good Food, Good Cause – Smoke on the Water’s tagline was brought to life as the BBQ competition and benefit doubled the population of Lynnville on Aug. 26. More than 800 people gathered at Lynnville’s Old Settlers Park for the annul competition which drew 25 teams of pitmasters from across the state to earn top spot in five meat categories and the People’s Choice Award for best side dish. The benefit raised $10,000 for a local woman who is battling cancer. — Hometown Press

• Mediapolis Savings Bank sponsored The Letter Art Club in 2017 at Morning Sun Elementary School. Instructors and six students attended eight one-hour classes in which they practiced cursive handwriting, learned calligraphy and designed an envelope to be entered in The Graceful Envelope contest, an international contest. Twenty winners were chosen in the fifth through eighth grade category, two of them from Morning Sun: Morgan Richenberger and Keetyn Townsley. • Farmington EMS recently purchased the 2017 Osage Ambulance. Farmington EMS is a Certified Conditional Paramedic Service and has been operating since 1979. The ambulance, which cost $197,000, is a four-wheel drive vehicle and utilizes a special powerload cot system. The ambulance is also capable of monitoring and transmitting vital information to the hospital, such as EKG. — Van
