Selim joins McFarland Clinic Pediatrics Department

McFarland Clinic is announcing the addition of Somaia Selim, MD to the McFarland Marshalltown Pediatrics Department in May. She will see patients at the 312 E. Main St., office.

Dr. Selim completed a pediatrics residency at Unterberg Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J. She completed her medical degree at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt.

Selim provides the following services: Well child care starting at birth up to age 21; Adolescent health and preventative services; Treatment for minor injuries, lacerations, sprains and strains; Immunizations; Care for acute illnesses; Treatment of chronic conditions and Sports physicals.

Kerber earns certificate from Consumer Credit School

Kari Kerber, of GNB Bank, successfully completed the Iowa Bankers Association Consumer Credit School, March 5-9 in Ankeny.

The school is an intense one-week program sponsored by the Iowa Bankers Association. The purpose of the IBA Consumer Credit School is to prepare consumer credit personnel who want to broaden their consumer credit knowledge or who have not been exposed to formal consumer credit education, to serve effectively and profitably as consumer credit officers. This is accomplished by developing a better understanding of the consumer credit function, deepening the comprehension of the managerial aspects of consumer credit operations and developing and refining the administrative and human relations skills necessary to meet the credit needs of their customers.

Kerber was born and raised in Marshalltown and attended the local community college. She has over seven years of banking experience and strives to provide top-notch customer service. She works hard to make the loan experience as stress- and hassle-free as she can for her customers.

Fulton honored at the Urban Forestry Awards Luncheon

The Iowa Urban Tree Council is announcing Gary Fulton as an Outstanding Volunteer. The award was presented at the 28th Annual Urban Forestry Awards Luncheon on April 4 at the Sheraton in West Des Moines.

Fulton is a retired biology instructor who taught at Marshalltown Community College, a Master Gardener and an active volunteer in the community. He has served on the Marshalltown Trees Forever/Branching Out Committee for more than 20 years and has served as its chairman for approximately 10 years. Through the leadership of Fulton, the Marshalltown Tree Committee has expanded and continues to serve the community through grant writing, fundraising, workshops on tree planting and care, volunteer tree planting and workshops helping youth learn the importance of trees.
