Felony assault charges filed against local man

On Monday, a fight between two men in the 200 block of West Church Street resulted in one being life-flighted to a Des Moines hospital while the other now faces felony assault charges.

Wyatt Kane Slinker, 23, of Marshalltown was charged with assault causing serious injury, according to a Marshalltown Police Department press release.

At approximately 5:46 p.m., police responded to the area after receiving reports of a fight. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who was critically injured during the altercation.

Slinker alleged the other male attempted to punch Slinker’s wife when he intervened, according to Marshall County District Court records.

This subject was subsequently taken to a medical facility in Marshalltown and was later taken by air transportation to a medical facility in Des Moines. The name of the injured party was not being released at this time pending family notifications.

Slinker is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond.
