• Andrew Thomas Weston made an initial appearance on two counts of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon charge, a child endangerment charge and a throwing missiles charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 4. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. If he owns or possesses any firearms or ammunition Weston is to contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office within 24 hours to make arrangements to surrender them. No contact orders have been issued for the protected parties.

• Vivian Marian Burley made an initial appearance on an obstruction of prosecution charge, a driving under suspension charge and a no insurance charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 4. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

• Bradley Wayne Sparrow waived his appearance on a robbery-second degree charge and on a theft-fifth degree charge. The judge assigned the public defender’s office as counsel and set the preliminary hearing for 1 p.m. on May 4. Bond is set at $1,000 cash only. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Wyatt Slinker made an initial appearance on a probation revocation request. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on May 25. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

• Tatum Lea Kapayou, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. She pleaded not guilty and the court appointed Tyler Heeren as counsel. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on May 24 in Magistrate Court. Kapayou is released on her promise to appear.

• William Ginorio made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on an operating while intoxicated-third offense charge, a driving under suspension charge, a no insurance charge and a failure to yield charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 4. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

Ginorio was also seen on a warrant charging him with failure to appear for a pre-trial conference on a public intoxication charge. Merrill Swartz is appointed as counsel. The pre-trial conference is rescheduled at 9 a.m. on May 10 in Magistrate Court. Bond is set at $350 cash only.

• Sharon Gries made an initial appearance on a compulsory education violation charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on June 14 in Magistrate Court.

• Anne Katherine Ford made an initial appearance on a striking unattended vehicle charge, a leaving the scene of an accident charge and a no insurance-accident charge. Ford pleaded guilty to the striking and leaving the scene charges. The fines are $65 each with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 for each charge, due within 30 days. The no insurance charge was dismissed by the court when proof of insurance was produced with court costs of $60 assessed, due in 30 days.

Accidents

• On Friday, April 21, a vehicle driven by Judy Ann Peterson, of Marion, was westbound on Church Street in the outside lane when it moved toward the inside lane and sideswiped a car driven by Angela Mae Tucker, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,000 each.

• On Friday, April 21, a minivan driven by April Carinne Tichy, of Garwin, was westbound on Summit Street when it attempted a left turn onto Taft Street crossing the path of a pickup driven by Timothy Allan Turner, of Marshalltown, resulting in the pickup colliding with the passenger side of the Tichy minivan sending it onto the terrace where it struck a utility pole. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Tichy minivan was estimated at $15,000 while the Turner pickup received an estimated $6,000 in damage.

• On Wednesday, April 12, a pickup driven by Floyd Lyle Beadle, of Marshalltown, was westbound on EAst Webster Street stopped at the intersection with Second Avenue. Beadle proceeded forward and collided with a car driven by Melissa Jean Edwards, of Marshalltown, which was southbound on Second Avenue. No injuries were reported. Beadle was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Damage to the Beadle pickup was estimated at $2,800 while the Edwards car received an estimated $3,500 in damage.
