• Jeremy Ian Roberts made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 28. The previously posted bond will continue until the conclusion of this case.
• Juan Hernandez made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for sentencing on a burglary-third degree charge, a criminal mischief-fourth degree charge and an assault charge. The public defender’s office will continue as counsel. The sentencing hearing is rescheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 8. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.
• Desiree Leah Carmer made an initial appearance on a unauthorized use of a credit card charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 11. Carmer is released on her promise to appear.
• Miguel Angel Rico made an initial appearance on a warrant charging Rico for failure to appear for a jury trial, on a warrant charging him with failure to appear for a rocket docket pre-trial conference and on a possession of heroin-first offense charge. Emily Swartz will continue as counsel for the jury trial. The jury trial is rescheduled at 9 a.m. on Aug. 17 with a pre-trial conference rescheduled for 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 11. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

• Antonio Jaramillo Jr. made an initial appearance on a leaving the scene of an accident charge and a striking unattended vehicle charge. Jaramillo pleaded guilty to both charges and the fines are $65 each with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 for each charge, due within 30 days.
• Blake Dean Benson made an initial appearance on a failure to stop in an assured, clear distance charge. Benson pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

Accidents
• On Tuesday, July 18, a pickup driven by Jacqueline Maria Cowan, of Marshalltown, was eastbound in the 10 block of West Boone Street when it attempted to turn north onto Center Street and struck a pedestrian walking in the crosswalk. The pedestrian was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown.
• On Sunday, a car driven by Joseph Dean Slocum, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Center Street when the driver fell asleep at the wheel and collided with a legally parked Dodge. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Slocum car was estimated at $2,000 while the Dodge received an estimated $4,000 in damage.
