• Heather Lynn Cole, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on two counts of a forgery charge, two counts of a theft-third degree charge and two counts of an identity theft charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 19. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. The court ordered that Cole be photographed and fingerprinted at the Marshalltown Police Department in connection with this case no later than March 9.

• Gustavo Aldolfo Nava made an initial appearance on a forgery charge, a theft-third degree charge and a possession of methamphetamine-first offense charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 16. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 30 days.

• Scott Mills made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. Darrell Meyer was appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

• Victoria Dawn Estrada made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 19. Estrada is released on her promise to appear.

• Desiree Carmer made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a theft-third degree enhanced charge. Breanna Nelson is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m on March 19. Carmer is released on her promise to appear.

• Justin Deal, of Ames, made an initial appearance on a warrant charging him with driving while barred. Merrill Swartz is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 16. Deal is released on his promise to appear.

• Ryan John McKibben, of Baxter, made an initial appearance on a public consumption of alcohol charge, a failure to obey a stop sign charge, a failure to maintain control charge and a leaving the scene of an accident charge. McKibben pleaded not guilty to all charges and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on March 28 in Magistrate Court. McKibben is released on his promise to appear.

• Marshall Freeman Hooper made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 2 p.m. on March 12 in District Associate Court.

• Paul James Hopkins made an initial appearance on a driving while barred-habitual offender charge. Jeffrey Hazen is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on March 16.

• Kara Suzanne Friedman made an initial appearance through counsel, Kevin O’Hare, on a operating while intoxicated charge, a no insurance-accident charge and a failure to stop in the assured, clear distance charge. The preliminary hearing has been waived by counsel. A substance abuse evaluation was ordered by the District Associate Court judge with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Angel Alberto Gonzalez Castillo made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a speeding charge and a no insurance charge. Gonzalez Castillo pleaded guilty to both charges. ON the speeding charge the fine is $90 with a $31.50 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $186.50. The fine on the no insurance charge is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $402.50. All payments are due within 30 days.
