• Luis Ramirez made an initial appearance on a possession of a firearm by a felon charge, a driving without registration charge and a no insurance charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 17.

• Zachary Bowers made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked charge, two counts of a driving under suspension charge, a no insurance charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 17. Bowers is released on his promise to appear.

• Jennifer Cancino Baeza made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 17. Baeza is released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Parker Reed made an initial appearance on a speeding charge. Reed pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on May 16 in Magistrate Court.

• Athena Padilla made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. on May 17. Padilla is released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• William Sanchez Vasquez made an initial appearance on a leaving the scene of an accident charge and a no insurance-accident charge. Sanchez Vasquez pleaded guilty to both charges. On the leaving the scene charge the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. The fine on the no insurance is $500 with a $175 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $735. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Jeff Pepe made an initial appearance on a leaving the scene of an accident charge. Pepe pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set at 9:30 a.m. on June 6 in Magistrate Court.

Arrests

• On Thursday James Cuellar, 56, was arrested for theft-third degree-enhanced.

• On Thursday Michelle Grommet, 31, was arrested for unlawful disposal of hazardous waste-first offense.

• On Thursday Casey Cook, 27, was arrested for possession of marijuana-first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Accidents

• On Thursday a minivan driven by Veddy Osakanu Onukumba, 39, of Marshalltown, was southbound on South Third Avenue when she attempted to turn left onto East Boone Street and collided with a car driven by Michael Gene Stanley, 59, of Marshalltown. Osakanu Onukumba was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown. Osakanu Onukumba was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn. Damage to the Osakanu Onukumba minivan was estimated at $3,000 while the Stanley car received an estimated $4,000 in damage.

Arrests

• On Thursday, April 26, Jonathon Lee Martin, 23, was arrested for ongoing criminal conduct and conspiring to manufacture or deliver methamphetamine.

Accidents

• On Sunday, April 22, a vehicle driven by Jacinta Sue Treft, 19, of Liscomb, was westbound on Marble Road when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Treft vehicle was estimated at $2,500.

• On Saturday, April 21, a car driven by a 17-year-old from Gladbrook was westbound on 120th Street when it swerved to miss a deer in the roadway, went out of control and entered the north ditch where it rolled several times before coming to rest in the ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the juvenile’s car was estimated at $7,000.

• On Friday, April 20, a pickup had been backed into a driveway in the 400 block of South Main Street in Albion and the driver got out leaving it running and in reverse when it began rolling down the driveway and colliding with the passenger side rear duals on a semi trailer driven by Robert James Ault, 70, of Elkhart. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $3,000 each.

April 22

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a gas leak at 3303 S. Center St., an unauthorized burning at 408 E. State St., and 10 medical assists with the EMS crew to: 502 Plaza Heights Road, 200 E. Main St., 204 S. Seventh Ave., 109 1/2 W. Webster St., 408 W. Nevada St., 206 N. Center St., 607 E. Church St., 627 W. Nevada St., 111 N. Seventh St., and 206 W. Grant St.

April 21

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a smoke detector activation-no fire-unintentional at 408 Carson Drive, and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 309 S. 12th Ave., 407 Melody Lane, 3202 S. 12th St., and 2005 Bryngelson Drive.

April 20

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a building fire at 1601 Laurel Drive, and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 800 S. Center St., 2819 W. Lincoln Way, 107 N. Second St. (Front), 511 N. 12th Ave., and 407 W. Madison St.

April 19

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an excessive heat, scorch burns with no ignition at 1304 W. Linn St., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1012 S. First Ave., 802 S. Center St., 611 E. South St., and 1006 Ratcliffe Drive.

April 18

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a carbon monoxide incident at 502 E. State St., a carbon monoxide detector activation due to a malfunction at 211 NewCastle Road, and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 202 Highland Acres Road, 402 Plaza Heights Road, 300 E. Marion Street/Third Avenue, 504 Edgeland Drive, and 207 Pine St.

April 17

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to 603 S. Seventh Ave., and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 503 N. Third St., 108 Washington St., 1109 W. State St., 507 N. Fourth St., 1211 W. State St.

April 16

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1011 W. Nevada St., 1211 W. State St., 122 W. Main St., 301 Pleasantview Road, 3012 S. Center St., and 803 E. State St.
