Wednesday

• Craig Alan Howell made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-impeding the flow of air or blood charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 27. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Jessy James Lennie made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge. Merrill Swartz is appointed as counsel. The parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by the administrative law judge and the parole board. Lennie is being held without bond.

• Payton Garcia made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 8. Garcia is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Tye Anthony Medhaug made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Medhaug is being held without bond.

• Robert Allen Buerckley made an initial appearance on an operating while intoxicated-third offense charge and a driving while revoked charge. Christian Stickrod has been hired as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 27. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Dustin E. Pherigo made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge and a failure to appear for a probation revocation hearing charge. Jeff Hazen will continue as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court. Pherigo is being held without bond on the probation revocation charge and has a $5,000 cash only bond for the failure to appear charge.

• David James Lee Spencer made an initial appearance on two counts of a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Spencer is being held without bond.

• Jordan Levi Foreman made an initial appearance on two counts of a pre-trial release violation charge. The pre-trial releases have been revoked and the bonds of $5,000 cash and $10,000 cash have been reinstated. The arraignment hearing for both of these cases is set for 1 p.m. on April 23.

• Blayn Donald Clabaugh made an initial appearance on an operating while intoxicated-second offense charge, a improper use of lanes charge and a driving under suspension charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 8. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Antonio Jesus Davila made an initial appearance on a non-registered vehicle charge and a driving while barred charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 8. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

Marshalltown Police Department

Accidents

• On Tuesday, a car driven by Jason Dewayne Burns, 43, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Summit Street when the driver became distracted and struck a legally parked Buick. No injures were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $4,500 each.

• On Tuesday, a vehicle driven by a 14-year-old female was southbound on North Third Avenue when it attempted to turn into the outside lane and collided with a vehicle driven by Vicki Jo Butler, 59, of Albion. No injuries were reported. The juvenile was cited for turning at an intersection and violation of a conditions of a restricted license. Damage to the Butler vehicle was estimated at $2,000 while the vehicle the juvenile was driving had an estimated $1,000 in damage.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Jo Ann Vela, 52, was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On Wednesday, April 11, a vehicle driven by Paula Jean Price, 62, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Sanford Avenue when a deer entered the roadway and was struck. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Price vehicle was estimated at $2,500.

• On Wednesday, April 11, a car driven by William Charles Scheffert, 75, of Marshalltown, was westbound on 240th Street when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Scheffert was estimated at $10,000.

• On Wednesday, April 11, a car driven by Rachelle Renae Johnson, 49, of New Providence, was eastbound on Marble Road when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Johnson car was estimated at $4,000.

• On Thursday, April 12, a car driven by Brennan Patrick Acton, 29, of Cedar Falls, was westbound on 120th Street when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Acton car was estimated at $8,000.

• On Sunday, April 15, a vehicle driven by Marilyn Curay Dayton, 33, of New Sharon, was westbound on 290th Street when it attempted to stop at the intersection with Reed Avenue, slid through the stop sign on the snow covered roadway and entered the west ditch where it struck a traffic sign and a fence. No injuries were reported. Dayton was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Dayton vehicle was estimated at $3,000 while the traffic sign received an estimated $400 in damage and the fence gate an estimated $200 in damage.

Grundy County Sheriff

Arrests

• On Saturday, Erik Crane, 33, of Waterloo, was arrested in Wellsburg and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Crane is being held in lieu of bond.

• On Friday, Mercedes Damme, 27, of Evansdale, was arrested by Black Hawk County authorities on two Grundy County warrants charging her with two counts of theft-third degree. She posted bond and was released.

• On Thursday, Darrell Anderson, 48, of Waterloo, was arrested by Black Hawk County authorities on a Grundy County warrant charging him with theft-fifth degree. Anderson was released on his promise to appear.

Accidents

• On Saturday, April 7, a car driven by Anton Tomash, 29, of Alta Vista, was northbound in the 100 block of Blackhawk Street in Reinbeck when the driver dropped his cell phone, swerved and collided with a snow bank. The driver left the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival. No injuries were reported. Tomash was cited for failure to maintain control, open container and failure to use a seat belt. Damage to the Tomash car was estimated at $4,000.

• On Saturday, April 14, a vehicle driven by Patricia Brimmer, 34, of Hazelton, was westbound on Highway 20 when the driver lost control due to the slushy roadway and entered the north ditch where it rolled. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Brimmer vehicle was estimated at $9,800.

• On Sunday, April 15, a vehicle driven by Bekka Reams, 18, of Osage, was westbound on Highway 20 taking the exit ramp to Highway 14 when the driver lost control due to the slippery roadway and entered the south ditch off the ramp and struck an embankment before coming to rest. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Reams vehicle was estimated at $4,500.
