Friday

• Jesse Ceniceros made an initial appearance on 19 counts of a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Ted Fisher will continue as counsel. The contempt hearing is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 20 in Magistrate Court. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only. The no-contact order for the protected party is still active.

• Scott William “Doc” Slocum made an initial appearance on a possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Merrill Swartz is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 16. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only. Upon release, Slocum will have 60 days to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court.

• Roberto Carlos Gonzalez Cervantes made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a driving under suspension charge and a no insurance charge. Gonzalez Cervantes pleaded guilty and the fines are $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 for each charge, due within 30 days. Gonzalez Cervantes is under an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold.

• Hrang Nawl made an initial appearance through an Aachen interpreter on a failure to appear for to sign an written arraignment hearing charge. Christian Stickrod will continue as counsel. Nawl is directed to see his counsel immediately. The papers are to be filed by Monday.

• Eulalio Angel Angel made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Angel produced a current driver’s license and the county attorney reduced the charge to an expired license charge. Angel pleaded guilty to the expired license and the fine is $50 with a $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50, due within 30 days.

• Luis Alberto Diaz Avina made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a operating while intoxicated charge, a child endangerment charge, a failure to yield half the roadway charge, an operation without registration charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. Diaz Avina will hire his own counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 25. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Isaias Gonzalez Tafolla made an initial appearance through on a operating while intoxicated charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 25. Gonzalez Tafolla is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Carlos Mendoza made an initial appearance on a keeping livestock charge. Mendoza pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• April Stanley made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Nicholas Adam Weatherly, of Albion, made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, two counts of a driving under suspension charge, a possession of marijuana-first offense charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 26. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

Accidents

• On Thursday, a vehicle driven by Amy Elizabeth McDermott, 46, of Newton, was westbound on Church Street in the north lane and attempted a left turn toward South Center Street crossing the path of a vehicle driven by Irma Rodriguez, 51, of Marshalltown, resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Damage to the McDermott vehicle was estimated at $4,000 while the Rodriguez vehicle received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Tuesday, a car driven by Jean Marie Wilkens, 54, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South Sixth Street when it struck a deer that emerged unexpectedly. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Wilkens car was estimated at $1,500.

• On Tuesday, a pickup driven by Benjamin William Veren, 37, was in pursuit of a car driven by Thomas Daniel Sheets, 32, which was driving through wet grass behind residences in the 100 block of North Third Avenue when Veren attempted to stop sliding on the wet grass unable to stop until he struck Sheets which had exited his car and was on foot. Sheets was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown with injuries. Damage to the Veren pickup was estimated at $1,500 while the Sheets car received an estimated $2,000 in damage.

• On Tuesday, a vehicle driven by James Robert Palmer, 73, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Maytag Road when it collided with a car driven by Patrice Marie Smith, 54, of Marshalltown, at the unmarked intersection with South Eighth Street. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Smith car was estimated at $3,000 while the Palmer vehicle received an estimated $4,000 in damage.

• On Tuesday, a car driven by Bradley J. Sease, 55, of Marshalltown, was driving through a parking lot on South 12th Avenue when it attempted to pull into a parking spot, being temporarily blinded by the rising sun, struck a legally parked pickup. No injuries were reported. Damage to the pickup was estimated at $3,000 while the Sease car received an estimated $7,000 in damage.

• On Sunday, a vehicle driven by Joel T.S. Greer, 65, of Marshalltown, was exiting a parking spot in the 200 block of West Madison Street when it collided with a car driven by Rodrigo Morales, 37, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Morales was cited for failure to have proof of insurance-accident. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,500 each.

• On Sunday, a car driven by Jamison Daniel Maddox, 44, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Jerome Street in the 600 block when it sideswiped a legally parked BMW causing the tires to become entangled and ripping the right axel from the vehicle which resulted in the Maddox car to flip onto the driver’s side and slide 40 feet before coming to a rest. No injuries were reported. Damage to the BMW was estimated at $10,000 while the Maddox car received an estimated $35,000 in damage.

• On Sunday, a car driven by Robert Eugene Smith, 52, of Marshalltown, was southbound on North Sixth Avenue approaching the unmarked intersection with Union Street. When Smith proceeded onto Union Street it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Beatriz Adriana Molina Sarabia, 29, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Smith was cited for no insurance-accident. Damage to the Smith car was estimated at $1,200 while the Molina Sarabia vehicle received an estimated $2,600 in damage.

• On Wednesday, Silvia Garcia, 35, was arrested for open container, no insurance, no valid driver’s license, driving while license is denied or revoked and operating while under the influence-second offense.

• On Wednesday, Thomas Sheets, 32, was arrested for violation of parole, domestic abuse assault-impeding the flow of blood or air, two counts of speeding, failure to obey a stop sign, unsafe passing, driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended, no insurance-accident and eluding.

• On Tuesday, Nathan Wayne Cuellar, 36, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Juan Miguel Sandoval, 35, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Rheldes Mouketo, 31, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Monday, a burglary of a motor vehicle was reported in Marshalltown.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, a vehicle driven by Eliel J. Ocampo, 66, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway causing substantial front end damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Ocampo vehicle was estimated at $5,000.

• On Wednesday, a car driven by Justin Lee Harris, 27, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Zeller Avenue when the wheel dropped onto the shoulder, the driver over-corrected, crossed the northbound lanes and entered the east ditch where it rolled before coming to a stop. Harris received minor injuries and refused medical treatment. Harris was cited for failure to use safety belts, failure to maintain control and no insurance-accident. Damage to the Harris car was estimated at $6,500.

• On Wednesday, a car driven by Kaitlyn Ann Gill, 19, of Albion, was northbound on Marsh Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Gill car was estimated at $2,500.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a gas leak at 1509 Marion St., two dispatched/cancelled en routes to 312 W. High St., and 208 E. Ferner St., and two medical assists with the EMS crew to 1407 W. Linn St., and Iowa Works.

June 30

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an unauthorized burning at 700 S. Eighth Ave., a carbon monoxide incident at 204 Rainbow Drive, and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 20 Iowa Ave. W, 122 W. Main St., 11 W. Grant St., and 1401 S. 17th Ave.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a good intent call to 607 E. Olive St., a smoke detector activation due to malfunction at 8 N. Seventh Ave., a false alarm at 3303 S. Center St., and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 309 N. First St., 706 W. Southridge Road, and 3202 S. 12th St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident with no injuries at 2601 Reycliff Drive, an authorized burning at 101 S. 16th St., two dispatched/cancelled en routes to 309 E.
