• Mina Youngbear made an initial appearance on a providing false identification information charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 1 in Magistrate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

• Jesse Quezada Jr. made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury charge, an obstruction of emergency communications charge and an interference with official acts charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 31. Quezada is being held without bond. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Larry Eastman made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault impeding the flow of air/blood chargeThe preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 31. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Alfredo Rico made an initial appearance on a voluntary absence from custody charge and three counts of probation violation. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel on all cases. The preliminary hearing on the absence from custody charge is set at 1 p.m. on Aug. 30. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only. The probation revocation hearing is set at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 7. Rico is being held without bond.

• Joseph Ashby made an initial appearance on a violation of probation charge. Tyler Heeren is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Sept. 7. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

• Adrian Nunez Vargas made an initial appearance on a operating while under the influence-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 7. Nunez Vargas is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Brenda Chavarria-Guevara made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 29 in Magistrate Court. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Celina Victor made an initial appearance on a conspire to manufacture or deliver methamphetamine charge and a failure to affix a drug tax stamp charge. Jennie Wilson Moore is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 28. Bond is set at $25,000 cash only.

• Malissa Pennell made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 19 in Magistrate Court.

• Favian Estrada made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 19 in Magistrate Court. Estrada is released on his promise to appear.

• Ernest Sam Jr. made an initial appearance on a unauthorized use of a credit card charge and an identity theft charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 28. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

• James Pratt made an initial appearance on a public intoxication-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 26 in Magistrate Court. Pratt is released on his promise to appear.

• Marcus Washington Jr. made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Washington pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $17.50 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $277.75, due within 30 days.

Arrests

• On Wednesday, Ryan Chaplin, 37, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Wednesday, Dominique Carroll, 25, was arrested for violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge and on a warrant.

• On Wednesday, Aye Win, 20, was arrested for criminal mischief-fifth degree.

• On Thursday, Brenda Chavarria-Guevara, 30, was arrested for violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge.

• On Thursday, Dartangan Leonard, 18, was arrested for possession of marijuana-first offense and on a warrant from another county.

• On Thursday, Molly Gummert, 31, was arrested for trespass.

• On Thursday, Montrell McClellan, 21, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Accidents

• On Aug. 4, a car driven by a 17-year-old female from Laurel was northbound on South Center Street when it changed lanes and collided with the rear of a car driven by Michelle Lynn Fleck, 45, of Marshalltown, which was stopped in traffic. Fleck complained of neck and back pain, but refused treatment upon arrival. The juvenile was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $3,000 each.

• On Aug. 6, a car driven by Ashtyn Kate Fuller, 18, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Est Church Street in the south lane when it attempted a left hand turn crossing the lane in front of a pickup driven by Marvin Lee Carty, 63, resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Fuller was cited for improper use of lanes. Damage to the Fuller car was estimated at $2,000 while the Carty pickup received an estimated $500 in damage.

• On Aug. 18, a car driven by Mindy Michelle Romero, 38, of Marshalltown, was witnessed as driving reckless and fast on Bromley Street when it backed up and struck a legally parked Dodge Caravan and left the scene. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Dodge Caravan was estimated at $2,000 while the Romero car received an estimated $4,000 in damage.

• On Aug. 21, a car driven by Wayne Keith Sawtelle, 60, of Marshalltown, was traveling in an alleyway when it collided with a car driven by Victor Ernest Hernandez Moreno, 18, of Marshalltown, sending it into a the corner of a garage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Sawtelle car was estimated at $500 while the Hernandez Moreno car received an estimated $5,000 in damage.

• On Wednesday, Nicholas Morgan, 30, was arrested and is being held for the State of Iowa.

• On Wednesday, Angela Doiron, 35, was arrested for sex offender registry violation-second or subsequent offense.

• On Wednesday, Elizabeth Flowe, 59, was arrested for domestic abuse assault-first offense.
