• Jonathon James Willemsen, of Monroe, made an initial appearance on a violation of a one-way designation charge, a driving while barred charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a driving under suspension charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 2. Willemsen was released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Brandon Scott Hinders, of St. Anthony, made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 26. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Shaidin Aaron Ross, of Colfax, made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-second offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 26. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party. The court ordered that Ross is barred from leaving the State of Iowa until the conclusion of this case.

• Kenneth Michael Corwin made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Corwin pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 28 in Magistrate Court.

• Austin Scott Halsted made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 2. Halsted was released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Princess Zannah Towah made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 2. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• On Tuesday, a hit and run accident was reported in the 300 block of South Second Avenue.

• On Tuesday, an accident involving striking fixtures was reported in the 500 block of North Fifth Street.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Bradley Johnson, 35, was arrested for driving under suspension.

• On Tuesday, Jonathon Willemsen, 28, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, violating a one-way designation, driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended and driving while barred.

Incidents

• On Sunday, a case of vandalism to property was reported in Le Grand.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Douglas Regin Thomas, 22, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

• On Tuesday, Shaidin Aaron Ross, 26, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Brandon Scott Hinders, 29, was arrested for domestic abuse assault-impeding the flow of air or blood.

• On Tuesday, Seton John Vest, 24, was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On Friday, a car driven by Barry V. Brewer, 61, of Grinnell, was westbound on 290th Street when it struck a deer that entered the roadway causing functional front end damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Brewer car was estimated at $4,000.

Grundy County Sheriff

Arrests

• On Oct. 6, Lacey Petersen, 29, of Colfax, was arrested on a Hardin County warrant charging her with failure to appear. Petersen was released to the Hardin County authorities.

• On Oct. 6, Drew Janssen, 37, of Holland, was arrested at his home on a Benton County warrant charging him with failure to appear. Janssen was released to Benton County authorities.

Accidents

• On Saturday, Oct. 13, a car driven by Hope Crimmins, 36, of Grundy Center, was northbound on Highway 14 when she had to swerve to miss a semi driven by Jerry Rahn, 70, of Marshalltown, that was slowing to turn and collided with the back of the semi and came to rest in the east ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Crimmins car was estimated at $5,000 while the Rahn semi received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Thursday, Oct. 11, a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old female from Grundy Center was southbound on Nickel Avenue south of 270th Street when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,500.
