• Brian Lacsina Demesa made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Demesa pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 7 in Magistrate Court. Jeff Hazen has been appointed as counsel. Demesa was released on his promise to appear.

• Austin Lee Kriegel made an initial appearance on a forgery charge and a theft-third degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 18. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

• Edgar Rene Avalos Mora made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Avalos Mora pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 7 in Magistrate Court.

• Hannah Sue Hepperle Peerenboom made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Hepperle Peerenboom pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Sara Noel Nunez made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Nunez pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Delores Lynn Moore made an initial appearance on a theft-second degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 26. Moore was released on her promise to appear.

• Michael Brian Hicks made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Hicks pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.

• Carnisha Earlene Johnson made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge. Johnson will hire her own counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 26. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days. Johnson was released on her promise to appear.

• Alicia Jones made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a no insurance charge. Jones pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 7 in Magistrate Court.

• Kristen Fricke made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge. Fricke pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 7 in Magistrate Court.

• Ean Joseph Walton made an initial appearance on a simple assault charge. Walton pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• On Friday, a hit and run accident was reported at the intersection of Third Avenue and Marion Street.

• On Friday, two burglaries of motor vehicles was reported in the 2900 block of South Center Street.

• On Sunday, a theft of a motor vehicle was reported to the Marshalltown Police Station.

• On Sunday, a theft of a motor vehicle and a burglary was reported in the 900 block of Jackson Street.

• On Friday, Rodolfo Byron, 26, was arrested for no insurance, no valid driver’s license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
