Court — Monday

• Nathan Tyler Courtney made an initial appearance on two counts of a probation violation charge, a voluntary absence from custody charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Courtney is being held without bond on this charge. The preliminary hearing on the voluntary absence charge is set at 1 p.m. on Dec. 6. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

• Dallas Lane Sorlaesith made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 14. Sorlaesith is released on her promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Shamar Newman made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge, an unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia charge, a driving under suspension charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 6. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Brandon Griggs made an initial appearance on two counts of a probation violation charge. Jennifer Frese is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Griggs is being held on a $10,000 cash only bond.

• A 15-year-old female made an initial appearance on a unlawful passing of a school bus charge. The juvenile pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 28 in Magistrate Court.

• Diane Bace, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge and a speeding charge. Bace pleaded guilty to both charges. On the no insurance charge the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $402.50. The fine on the speeding charge is $40 with a $14 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $119. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Francisco Corona Barajas made an initial appearance on a no valid driver’s license charge, a driving under suspension charge, a no insurance charge and an operation without registration charge. Corona Barajas pleaded not guilty to all charges and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 16, 2019, in Magistrate Court.

• Diego Murillo made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Murillo pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 26 in Magistrate Court.

• Alexandra Susan Evone Curry made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

Incidents

• On Wednesday, a case of vandalism to property was reported in the 400 block of North Center Street.

• On Thursday, a theft valued at more than $200 and less than $500 was reported to the Marshalltown Police Station.

• On Friday, a theft of a motor vehicle was reported in the 800 block of South Third Avenue.

• On Friday, a forgery was reported in the 500 block of Iowa Avenue West.

• On Saturday, a theft of a motor vehicle was reported in the 1500 block of West Main Street.

• On Thursday, Eli Miller, 41, was arrested for possession of contraband in a correctional facility.

• On Thursday, Daniel Deng, 39, was arrested for public intoxication-first offense.

• On Wednesday, Timothy Kluck, 48, was arrested for fraudulent user of registration, dominion or control of a firearm by a felon, possession of incendiary/explosive device, unauthorized possession of offensive weapons, driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• On Wednesday, April Stanley, 38, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and on a warrant.

• On Wednesday, Lilea Moore, 18 was arrested for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended.

Accidents

• On Nov. 20, a car driven by a 16-year-old female from Marshalltown was in the outside lane on West Madison Street in stopped traffic and pulled out into the turning lane into the path of a car driven by Chad Richard Hein Jr., 24, of Baxter, which was moving into position to turn left. The juvenile was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $3,000 each.

• On Nov. 20, a car driven by Ariella Mora-Starits, 18, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South Center Street in the inside lane when it was approaching a car driven by Jeffrey John Watson, 63, of Marshalltown, that was attempting to go around a stopped vehicle and it collided with the rear of the Watson car. No injuries were reported. Mora-Starits was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to both vehicles was estimates at $3,000 each.

• On Saturday, a vehicle driven by Michelle Angelique Davenport, 18, of Tama, was eastbound on Marion Street when it exited the roadway to the right and struck a fence post. The driver fled the scene of the accident and was arrested a few blocks away. No injuries were reported. Davenport was cited for public intoxication, failure to maintain control and leaving the scene of an accident-property damage only. Damage to the Davenport vehicle was estimated at $20,000 while the fence post received an estimated $10 in damage.

• On Sunday, a vehicle driven by Eldon Viers Chase, 32, of Marshalltown, was attempting a left turn onto West Main Street when, due to sun in the driver’s eyes, it collided with a car driven by Jacob Steven Henscheid, 33, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Henscheid was cited for no insurance. Damage to the Henscheid car was estimated at $800 while the Chase vehicle received an estimated $1,200 in damage.

• On Monday, a case of vandalism to property was reported in the town of Ferguson.

Arrests

• On Friday, Deano Joseph Puccio, 55, was arrested on a warrant from another county.

• On Saturday, Daniel Jefferson Jr., 27, was arrested on a warrant charging him with theft-third degree and forgery.

Accidents

• On Friday, Nov. 23, a vehicle driven by Edric Duane Olsen, 61, of McGregor, was northbound on Marsh Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Olsen vehicle was estimated at $7,500.

• On Tuesday, Nov. 20, a vehicle driven by Russell John Feldman, 47, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Iowa Avenue near Highland Acres Road when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Feldman vehicle was estimated at $8,000.

• On Monday, Nov. 19, a car driven by Madeline Jayne Lennon, 20, of Cedar Falls, was westbound on 160th Street when the car drifted to the right, got into some snow and when the driver attempted to get the car back onto the roadway she overcorrected resulting in the entering the north ditch sideways, rolling over and coming to rest on its wheels. No injuries were reported. Lennon was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Lennon car was estimated at $2,300.

• On Monday, Nov. 12, a car driven by Kristen Dawn Garber, 47, of Marshalltown, was westbound on 130th Street when it started to fishtail on the gravel causing it to enter the south ditch, roll over and come to rest on its wheels. Garber was transported to Grundy Center Hospital. Damage to the Garber car was estimated at $10,000.
