• Shane L. Charlton made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-impeding the flow of air or blood causing bodily injury charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 26. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Dwayne Eugene Honbarger made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree-enhanced charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 5. Honbarger is released on his promise to appear.

• Joshua Christian Reece made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. Reece pleaded guilty to both charges. On the driving under suspension charge the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $402.50. The fine on the driver’s license charge is $200 with a $70 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $335. All payments are due within 30 days.

The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 6. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Jeffrey Collins made an initial appearance on a careless driving charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 19 in Magistrate Court.

• Arturo Manzo Macias made an initial appearance on two counts a driving under suspension charge, a failure to maintain control charge and a no insurance charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 28 in Magistrate Court.

• Christian Brandon Mason made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Mason pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Shawn LeRoy Menter made an initial appearance on an assault causing bodily injury charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 6. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Scott Conklin made an initial appearance on an employee who sold tobacco to a minor charge. Conklin pleaded guilty and the fine is $100 with a $35 surcharge surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195, due within 30 days.

• Anthony Hill made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Hill is released on his promise to appear.

• Jerome McDowell made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 6. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

All payments are due within 30 days.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, a pickup driven by Kendra Christine Savage, 23, of Marshalltown, was entering an apartment complex parking area when it struck a legally parked Hyundai Elantra and left the scene. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Savage pickup was estimated at $1 while the Hyundai Elantra sustained an estimated $1,500 in damage.

• On Thursday, Linda May Bennett, 62, was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On Friday, a car driven by Ray Eugene Willits, 68, of Union, was southbound on Hopkins Avenue when it struck a deer on the traveled portion of the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Willits car was estimated at $10,000.
