• Rebecca Joan Reeder made an initial appearance on a burglary-third degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 14. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

• Pedro Antonio Perez Perez made an initial appearance on an assault while displaying a weapon charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 24. Perez Perez was released on his promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Chad Allen Hatch made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-first offense charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 30 in Magistrate Court. Hatch was released on his promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Shelby Sue Powell made an initial appearance on a forgery charge and a theft-third degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 24. Powell is released on her promise to appear.

• Isaac Sando made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a possession of marijuana-first offense charge, a malicious prosecution charge, a no insurance charge and a speeding charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 24. Sando is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Jeremy Adkins made an initial appearance on a trespass-first offense charge. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 30 in Magistrate Court.

• Jenny Jayne Baedke made an initial appearance on two counts of a driving under suspension charge and a no insurance charge. The court dismissed one of the driving under suspension charges. Baedke pleaded guilty to the other two charges and the fines are $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 on each charge, due within 30 days.

• Kay Lynn Clark made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 30 in Magistrate Court.

• Cesar Daniel Guillen Rivera made an initial appearance on a striking unattended vehicle charge, a violation of one-way traffic designation charge, a no insurance-accident charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. Guillen Rivera pleaded guilty to all charges. On the striking unattended vehicle the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. The fine on the one-way traffic violation is $100 with a $35 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195. The fine on the no insurance charge is $500 with a $175 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $735. On the no valid driver’s license the fine is $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330. All payments are due within 30 days.

• A 16-year-old female made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. She pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 14 in Magistrate Court.

• Jessica Megan McKinney made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Savvanah Sara Ponce made an initial appearance on a no insurance-accident charge and a leaving the scene of an accident charge. Ponce pleaded guilty to both charges. The fine on the no insurance charge is $500 with a $175 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $735. On the leaving the scene of an accident charge the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Trudy Amber Fricke made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 24. Fricke is released on her promise to appear.

• Michael Mark Pearson made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked charge. Pearson will hire his own counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 24. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• On Thursday, Chad Hatch, 39, was arrested for domestic abuse assault-first offense.

Accidents

• On Thursday, a car driven by a 16-year-old female from Marshalltown was eastbound on Olive Street attempting to turn into the Meadow Lane Mall parking lot when the sun blinded the driver temporarily resulting in a collision with a pickup driven by G. Erick Lenning, 60, of Le Grand. No injuries were reported. Damage to the juvenile’s car was estimated at $5,000 while the Lenning pickup received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Thursday, a vehicle driven by Otis Ludwig Anderson, 80, of Ankeny, was northbound on South Center Street when it went through a red light at the intersection with Linn Street colliding with a vehicle driven by Kay Lynn Kauffman, 34, of Gladbrook. No injuries were reported. Anderson was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Damage to the Anderson vehicle was estimated at $2,000 while the Kauffman vehicle received an estimated $5,000 in damage.

• On Thursday, a car driven by James Paul Veld, 64, of Marshalltown, was exiting his driveway when it struck a legally parked Ford Taurus. No injuries were reported. Veld was cited for unsafe backing. Damage to the Veld car was estimated at $500 while the Ford Taurus received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Wednesday, a van driven by Jeffrey Allen Hannam, 55, was exiting the alleyway onto North Second Street when it struck a legally parked Pontiac Grand Am. No injuries were reported. Hannam was cited for striking an unattended vehicle, no insurance-accident and operating while under the influence-first offense. Damage to the Hannam van was estimated at $1,000 while the Pontiac Grand Am received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to 11 medical assists with the EMS crew to: 514 N. Second St., 7 E. High St., 1606 E. Nevada St., 408 S. Ninth St., 101 S. First St., 1501 E. Nevada St., 507 Dennis Drive, 714 W. Nevada St., 1304 Greenbrier Lane, 1513 Summit St. and 5 S. Seventh Ave.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a smoke scare at 910 E. Olive St. and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 514 E. Olive St., 111 N. Seventh St., 512 Carson Drive and 1809 W. Main St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an assist police or other government agency at 201 E. Main St. and seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 202 N. Second Ave., 1516 W. Main St., 1709 Rainbow Drive, 1619 S. 12th St., 1 W. Grant St., 501 Bel Aire Drive and 1301 Summit St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an alarm sounded due to malfunction at 312 E. Main St., a smoke detector activation due to malfunction at 312 E. Main St. and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 8 E. Main St., 1112 Bromley St., 409 N. 15th St. and 404 Melody Lane.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a vehicle accident general cleanup at Center Street and Olive Street, a removal of victims from stalled elevator at 2 N. Second Ave., a smoke detector activation-no fire-unintentional at 910 E. Olive St. and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 307 N. First St., 402 N. 12th Ave., 412 S. Second St. and 302 NewCastle Road.

Dec. 25

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an alarm system activation-no fire-unintentional at 402 N. 10th Ave., two no incidents found upon arrival at 907 W. Boone St. and 900 Fremont St., an animal rescue at 611 N. Center St. and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 910 E. Olive St., 202 S. Third Ave. and 1001 Fremont St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 107 1/2 W. Grant St., Center Street and Grant Street and 1211 W. State St.

Grundy County Sheriff

Accidents

• On Tuesday, a car driven by Teta Toe, 20, of Waterloo, was westbound on Highway 20 when the driver lost control and entered the north ditch where it came to rest. Toe received minor injuries. Damage to the Toe car was estimated at $7,000.

• On Wednesday, a vehicle driven by Alissa Claassen, 19, of Elk Run Heights, was southbound on T-55 south of 110th Street when the driver lost control on the frosty roadway, entered the east ditch and rolled once before coming to rest in a field. Occupants were transported to Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Damage to the Claassen vehicle was estimated at $2,000.
