Court — Tuesday

• David Randall Riedle made an initial appearance on a voluntary absence from custody charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Feb. 15. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

• Charles B. Pirtle Jr. made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge, a interference with official acts charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Breanna Nelson was appointed as counsel on the parole violation. A parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by an administrative court judge and the parole board. Pirtle is being held without bond. Pirtle pleaded guilty to the other two charges. On the interference charge the fine is $250 with an $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. The fine on the drug paraphernalia charge is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $282.75. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Lyndon Snow made an initial appearance on a failure to complete a batterer’s education program/contempt of court charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Snow was released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement.

• Kurt Eugene Pille failed to appear for an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. The court found Pille guilty and fined him $250 with an $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

Accidents

• On Jan. 22, a vehicle driven by Solomon Marshall Nay Davidstars, 35, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Lincolnway when it drove off the roadway to the south crossing through the end of a driveway before running over the mailbox, through the shrubbery and striking a tree. No injuries were reported. Davidstars was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Davidstars vehicle was estimated at $6,000 while the mailbox received an estimated $150 in damage, the shrubbery an estimated $200 in damage and the tree an estimated $100 in damage.

• On Thursday, a vehicle driven by Roberto J. Kephart-Andrade, 18, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Ninth Street approaching the intersection with Lincoln Way when it collided with the rear of a car driven by Shandy Banning McDowell, 41, of Marshalltown, sending her car into the rear of a pickup driven by Scott Edward Loffgren, 59, of Marshalltown, which was stopped at the stop sign. No injuries were reported. McDowell was cited for no insurance-accident and Kephart-Andrade was cited for failure to stop in the assured, clear distance. Damage to the Kephart-Andrade vehicle was estimated at $2,000 while the McDowell car received an estimated $7,000 in damage and the Loffgren pickup an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Friday, a pickup driven by Raul Ibarra Diaz, 33, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South Third Avenue when it collided with the rear of a car driven by Joshua William Rhoades, 24, of Marshalltown, which was turning into a business driveway. No injuries were reported. Ibarra Diaz was cited for failure to stop in the assured, clear distance. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $3,000 each.

• On Friday, a car driven by Marcela Torres Arceo, 35, of Marshalltown, was exiting a driveway when it struck a legally parked Ford Taurus. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Torres Arceo car was estimated at $300 while the Ford Taurus received an estimated $1,300 in damage.

• On Monday, a car driven by Linda Kay Harrington, 63, of Albion, was driving on the back side of Goodwill when it came around the corner and collided with a car driven by Amanda Jo Williams, 32, of Marshalltown, which had been partially obscured by a parked Goodwill semi. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Williams car was estimated at $3,000.

• On Monday, a vehicle driven by Nicolasa Arreola, 21, of Marshalltown, was westbound on East South Street at the intersection with South Third Avenue when it proceeded forward and collided with a minivan driven by Jessica Tolley Bullock, 33, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Arreola was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to the Arreola vehicle was estimated at $1,000 while the Bullock minivan received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Monday, a vehicle driven by James Russell Dobbins, 43, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Iowa Avenue West when it attempted a left turn crossing the path of a car driven by Charlene Marie Fox, 58, of Le Grand, resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Dobbins was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $8,000 each.

• On Monday, a pickup driven by Dillon James Knight, 28, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South Center Street approaching a red light at the intersection with Iowa Avenue when the pickup began to slide turning sideways and colliding with a car driven by Sherry Lynn Eipperle, 51, of Marshalltown, in the left turn lane. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Eipperle car was estimated at $750.

Arrests

• On Monday, Stephanie Morgan Webber, 27, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Monday, Diego Villa-Magana, 21, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Monday, Patrick Roger Williams, 49, was arrested for driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway and operating while under the influence-first offense.

Grundy County Sheriff

Arrests

• On Jan. 28, Ryan Stuber, 39, of Grundy Center, was arrested at his home and charged with domestic abuse assault. Stuber is being held in lieu of bond.

Accidents

• On Jan. 30, a vehicle driven by Elizabeth Popejoy-Geiken, 23, of Conrad, was northbound on T-29 south of 300th Street when it struck a snow drift in the roadway causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and enter the east ditch where it rolled onto its top. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Popejoy-Geiken vehicle was estimated at $4,500.

• On Jan. 30, a vehicle driven by Anthony Magnuson, 25, of Grundy Center, was southbound on Highway 14 at D-35 when the driver lost control on the icy/snowy roadway and entered the east ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Magnuson vehicle was estimated at $4,000.

• On Sunday, a vehicle driven by Mark Halsey, 64, of Eldora, was northbound on Highway 14 and a vehicle driven by Dennis Wilke, 65, of Altoona, was southbound on Highway 14 when they collided head-on in the dense fog eight miles north of the Conrad corner. Both drivers and two passengers were transported to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Damage to the Halsey vehicle was estimated at $25,000 while the Wilke vehicle received an estimated $10,000 in damage. The accident remains under investigation by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office.
