• Rodger Dawayne Gardner made an initial appearance on a voluntary absence from custody charge, a supplying alcohol to a minor charge and a sex offender violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is 1 p.m. on Feb. 15. Bond is set at $7,000 cash or surety.

• Christopher James Anderson made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

• Randy Lynn Hinders made an initial appearance on a possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense charge, a driving under suspension charge, a failure to obey a stop sign charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m on Feb. 15. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Derek Matthew Curley made an initial appearance on a possession of a Schedule II controlled substance-first offense charge and a theft-fifth degree charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m on Feb. 26. Curley is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Vanessa Corine Collins made an initial appearance on two counts of a theft-third degree charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m on Feb. 25. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

• Joanna Dawn Martinez made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge and a credit card theft charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m on Feb. 25.

• Shelby Thompson Sammons made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. Sammons pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Jesse Quazell Pickens made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a operation of a non-registered vehicle charge. Pickens pleaded guilty to both charges. The fine on the driving under suspension charge is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. The fine on the operation of a non-registered vehicle charge is $50 with a $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Mang Min Sang made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-second offense charge, a no insurance charge and a failure to maintain control charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m on Feb. 25. Sang is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Jose Angel Padilla III made an initial appearance by phone on a driving under suspension charge and a no valid driver’s license charge and entered a plea of guilty to both charges. The fine on the driving under suspension charge is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge, $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $402.50. The fine on the driver’s license charge is $200 with a $70 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $335. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Tyler Rundall made an initial appearance on two counts of a possession of a controlled substance charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m on Feb. 25. Rundall is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 day.

Incidents

• On Tuesday, a theft from a building was reported in the 10 block of East Southridge Road.

• On Tuesday, a hit and run accident was reported in the 800 block of South Center Street.

Citations

• On Tuesday, Jeremy Lynn Lavender, 33, was cited for operation without registration and no insurance.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Vanessa Collins, 38, was arrested for theft-third degree.

• On Tuesday, Mang Sang, 37, was arrested for no insurance, failure to maintain control and operating while under the influence-second offense.

• On Tuesday, Jeremy Lavender, 33, was arrested for driving while barred-habitual offender and driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended.

• On Tuesday, Derek Curley, 31, was arrested for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance-first offense.

• On Tuesday, Randy Hinders, 57, was arrested for failure to obey a traffic control device, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension.

Accidents

• On, Jan. 25, a pickup with a trailer attached driven by Joshua James Adkins, 36, of Laurel, was picking up his child from school when as he was pulling away it struck the passenger side front bumper of a Buick that was parked pickup up a child. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Buick was estimated at $1,500.

• On Jan. 27, a Honda Civic driven by an unknown driver was southbound on Ninth Street when it attempted to turn east onto Washington Street and crossed the center of the roadway colliding head-on with a vehicle driven by Nathan Oliver Manning, 35, of Marshalltown, and then left the scene. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Manning vehicle was estimated at $4,000.

• On Tuesday, a car driven by Mang Min Sang, 37, of Marshalltown, was exiting his driveway when he backed across the street onto his neighbor’s yard and struck his deck then tried to leave the scene, but got stuck in a snow drift. No injuries were reported. Sang was arrested for driving under the influence. Damage to the Sang car was estimated at $2,000 while the neighbor’s deck received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Tuesday, Jeanette Smith, 41, was arrested on a mittimus warrant for not serving a jail sentence.

• On Tuesday, Jorge Luis Nunez Alvarez, 24, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Christopher James Anderson, 40, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Rodger Dawayne Gardner Jr., 34, was arrested on a warrant.
