• Dustin Reed Susie made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for sentencing hearing charge, a keeping of a premises or vehicle for the purpose of using or selling drugs charge, a possession of methamphetamine charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge, a providing false identification information charge and a pre-trial release violation charge. Ted Fisher will continue as counsel on the sentencing charge and the sentencing hearing will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel on the new charges. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 21. Bond on the new charges is $20,000 cash or surety. Pre-trial release was revoked an a bond of $5,000 cash or surety was instated. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Jasmine C. Wright made an initial appearance on a keeping a premises or vehicle for the purpose of using or selling drugs charge, a possession of methamphetamine charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 29. Wright is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement.

• Teri P. Frye made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing is scheduled at 2 p.m. on March 18. Frye is released on her promise to appear. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• James Fred Douglas made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 29. Douglas is released on his promise to appear.

• Jimmy Santino Lubari made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Wayne Allen Ham made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge. Ham will hire his own counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 29. Ham is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Hector Lizarde Garcia made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a leaving the scene of an accident-property damage only charge, a passing on the wrong side of the roadway charge and a no insurance-accident charge. Lizarde Garcia pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on May 1 in Magistrate Court. Lizarde Garcia was released on his promise to appear.

Accidents

• On March 5, a vehicle driven by Yuri Sanchez, 29, of Marshalltown, was backing out of a driveway when it got far enough to catch the rear tire well on a Ford F350 pickup driven by Allen Lee Sawvell, 47, of Dubuque, which was driving northbound on Eighth Avenue. The Ford pickup pulled the vehicle down the road until the bumper became dislodged. No injuries were reported. Sanchez was cited for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended. Damage to the Sanchez vehicle was estimated at $3,000 while the Sawvell pickup received an estimated $4,500 in damage.

• On March 8, a semi driven by Justin Thomas Strang, 37, of Des Moines, was driving northbound down an alleyway when a patch of ice caused the trailer to slide, colliding with the passenger side corner of a legally parked Honda Odyssey. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Honda was estimated at $2,500.

• On Saturday, a car driven by a 16-year-old male from Grundy Center was westbound on Merle Hibbs Boulevard approaching the stop sign at South Sixth Street when it continued forward into the path of a minivan driven by Scott Allen Johnson, 47, of Conrad, resulting in collision. No injuries were reported. The juvenile was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $5,000 each.

• On Sunday, a Toyota Matrix was exiting a parking spot at Walmart when it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Barbara Ellen Jennings, 59, of Marshalltown, and left the scene. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Jennings vehicle was estimated at $1,500 while the Toyota Matrix had an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Monday, Robert Dana Johnson Jr., 31, was arrested on a warrant.

Grundy County Sheriff

Accidents

• On Saturday, March 9, a vehicle driven by Raymond Abwe, 20, of Des Moines, was westbound on Highway 20 when the driver lost control in the slushy, snowy roadway and entered the median where it rolled over and spun around facing east on the eastbound inside shoulder. Abwe and six passengers ranging in age from 16 to 19, all from Des Moines, were transported to Grundy County Memorial Hospital. The 16-year-old was ejected from the vehicle and later transferred to Iowa Methodist in Des Moines for his injuries. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $8,000. The accident remains under investigation by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office.
