Court — Wednesday

• Lance Matthew Schaum made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge and a possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense charge. Tyler Heeren was appointed as counsel on the parole violation. A parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by the Administrative Court Judge and the Department of Correctional Services. Schaum is being held without bond. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel on the drug charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 29. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• David Garcia Tapia made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on an interference with official acts charge and a public intoxication charge. Garcia Tapia pleaded guilty to both charges. On the interference charge the fine is $250 with an $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. The fine on the public intoxication charge is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. All payments are due within 30 days.

• James Mark Gummert made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Jeff Hazen will continue as counsel. The contempt hearing is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on March 27 in Magistrate Court. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Refugio Gonzalez made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-third or subsequent offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 9. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Josephine Estrada Duenas made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Estrada Duenas pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on April 24 in Magistrate Court.

• Nge Htway made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. The court pleaded Htway not guilty and set a pre-trial conference at 9:30 a.m. on April 24 in Magistrate Court for the purposes of having an interpreter available.

• Robert Dana Johnson Jr. made an initial appearance on a owner allowing motor vehicle violation charge. Johnson pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on April 24 in Magistrate Court.

• Trenton Lee Leatherman made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Leatherman pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on April 24 in Magistrate Court.

• Juan M. Mendoza Garcia made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. A preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 8.

• Jose R. Regalado Aguirre and Jose A. Regalado Aguirre made an initial appearance on a violation of an unsafe dwelling charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on May 8 in Magistrate Court.

• Kayla Nicole Mobley made an initial appearance on a operating while under the influence-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 8. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

Accidents

• On Saturday, a car driven by Diana Sue Dawes, 57, of Van Horne, and a vehicle driven by Theresa Kparyea Boan, 35, of Marshalltown, were exiting a business parking lot at the same time when they collided. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,500 each.

• On Monday, a vehicle driven by Tammara Jean Moore, 57, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Governor Road when it collided with the rear of a pickup driven by Baldemar Carranza-Ambriz, 51, of Marshalltown, which was stopped awaiting for traffic to clear to make a left turn. No injuries were reported. Moore was cited for failure to stop in the assured, clear distance. Damage to the Moore vehicle was estimated at $8,000 while the Carranza-Ambriz pickup received an estimated $500 in damage.

• On Tuesday, a minivan driven by Walden James Paige, 74, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Highway 14 when it attempted a lane change and collided with a car driven by Michelle Lee Allen, 49, of Reinbeck. No injuries were reported. Paige was cited for improper lane change. Damage to the Paige minivan was estimated at $2,300 while the Allen car received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Tuesday, a car driven by Juana Saldivar Juarez, 24, of Marshalltown, was parked in the Woodbury School loading zone for picking up children when she pulled back into traffic and sideswiped a pickup driven by Adan Manzo-Macias, 34, of Marshalltown, and then left the scene. No injuries were reported. Saldivar Juarez was cited for no valid driver’s license, no insurance-accident and leaving the scene of an accident. Damage to the Saldivar Juarez car was estimated at $1,000 while the Manzo-Macias pickup received an estimated $2,000 in damage.

• On Tuesday, James Mark Gummert, 35, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Joshua Jay Buschbom, 44, was arrested for driving while barred-habitual offender.
