• Dean Allen Oziah Jr. made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge, a failure to appear for a pre-trial conference on a public intoxication charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Aron Vaughn will continue as counsel on the two failure to appear charges. A pre-trial conference on both charges is set at 9:30 a.m. on June 12 in Magistrate Court. Oziah pleaded guilty to the possession of drug paraphernalia charge and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $282.75, due within 30 days. Oziah was released on his promise to appear.

• Timothy Luke Baer made an initial appearance on an eluding charge, a operating while under the influence-second offense charge, an interference with official acts charge, a stop sign violation charge, a stopping on the highway charge and a speeding charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 3. Bond is set at $7,000 cash only. If bond is secured, Baer is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Thomas Michael Paintin made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for arraignment charge. Marshon Dubbert will continue as counsel. The arraignment hearing will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

• Adnel Omar Rodriguez Silva made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Rodriguez Silva pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with an $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Victoria Alison Allen made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Allen pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on June 26 in Magistrate Court.

• Jana Taylor made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a probation revocation hearing. Jeff Hazen will continue as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

• Ncam Gwanko Gabriel made an initial appearance through a Kirundi interpreter on a driving while revoked charge and a non-registered vehicle charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 6. Gabriel is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 72 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement.

Accidents

• On Thursday, a car driven by Leonard Duane Schnathorst, 79, of Le Grand, was westbound on East Linn Street in the north side lane when he attempted to turn left into an alleyway and collided with a car driven by Maria Garcia-Alcaraz, 19, of Marshalltown, which was also westbound in the south lane. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Schnathorst car was estimated at $2,500 while the Garcia-Alcaraz car received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Thursday, a car driven by Anna Victoria Hoffman, 41, of Pleasant Hill, was entering South Center Street from the Highway 30 off-ramp when it collided with the rear of a pickup driven by Jorge Antonio Cervantes 24, of Toledo. No injuries were reported. Hoffman was cited for turning at intersection violation. Damage to the Hoffman car was estimated at $5,000 while the Cervantes truck received an estimated $500 in damage.

Arrests

• On Thursday, Eric Patlan, 19, was arrested for driving while barred and no valid driver’s license.

• On Thursday, Timothy Baer, 28, was arrested for operating while under the influence-second offense, eluding, interference with official acts, failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way, speeding and stopping on the paved portion of a highway.

• On Thursday, Jana Taylor, 35, was arrested on a warrant charging her with violation of probation.

• On Thursday, Thomas Paintin, 39, was arrested on a warrant charging him with possession of marijuana-second offense and possession of a controlled substance-second offense.

May 19

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a unauthorized burning at 1612 S. Second St., two dispatched/cancelled en routes to 1702 S. Seventh Ave. and 811 E. Main St. and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 533 N. Third St., 305 N. Second St., 1619 S. 12th St. and 3202 S. 12th St.

May 18

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route at Westwood Drive and 12th Street, an arcing shorted electrical equipment at 3 S. Fourth Ave. and nine medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1 W. Grant St., 218 N. Third Ave., Church Street and Fifth Avenue, 412 N. First Ave., 1619 S. 12th St., 407 Plaza Heights Road, 8 E. Main St., 1518 E. Olive St. and 409 N. 15th St.

May 17

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an EMS call excluding vehicle accident with injury at 402 N. 10th Ave., a dispatched/cancelled en route to 302 NewCastle Road, a medical assist with the EMS crew to 302 NewCastle Road and a heat detector activation due to malfunction at 811 E. Main St.

May 16

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a HazMat release investigation with no HazMat at 629 W. Lincoln Way, a smoke detector activation due to malfunction at 514 E. Olive St., a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 1711 Summit St., a cooking fire confined to container at 3007 Arnold Drive and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 125 S. 11th St., 2510 S. Sixth St., 1309 Rolling Meadows Road and 202 N. Second Ave.

May 15

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at JC Penneys, a vehicle accident with general clean-up at 2802 S. Center St. and seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 805 E. State St., 104 S. 29th St., 2315 Campbell Drive, 1315 W. Main St., 1408 S. Seventh Ave., 206 N. Center St. and 910 E. Olive St.

May 14

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1211 W. State St., 2503 S. Second Ave., 702 Union St. and 106 Anson Circle.

May 13

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a gas leak at 204 N. Second St., an unauthorized burning at 600 E. South St., a vehicle accident, general clean-up at East Lincoln Street and Highland Acres Road and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 202 N. Second Ave., 522 N. Second St. and 1407 W. Linn St.
