Court — Wednesday

• Oscar Miguel Nunez Cabrera made an initial appearance on a burglary-first degree charge, a domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness charge, a harassment-first degree charge and four violation of of no-contact/contempt of court charges. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing on the new charge is set at 1 p.m. on June 21. Bond is set at $50,000 cash only. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond on the contempt charges is $1,000 cash only. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Nicholas Aloysius Welter II made an initial appearance on an operating while under the influence-first offense charge and a driving under suspension charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 2. Welter is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Sheila Kim Brown made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a pre-trial release revocation hearing charge. Mark Olberding will continue as counsel. Pre-trial release was revoked and a bond of $25,000 cash only was instated.

• Marisa Easton made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

• Narissa Jo Banks made an initial appearance on a possession of methamphetamine charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 2. Banks is released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Cristian Coury made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Coury pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Crucita De Paula Nunez De made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a failure to obey a traffic control device charge. De Paula Nunez De pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 17 in Magistrate Court.

• James Anthony Oden made an initial appearance on a carrying weapons charge and a public intoxication-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 2. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A photograph and fingerprint order was issued in this case.

• Sergio Ramirez Rios made an initial appearance on an assault causing bodily injury or mental illness charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 2. Ramirez Rios was released on his promise to appear.

• Dustin h made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Umbaugh pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Gabriel Omar Santos Lopez made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a driving while barred charge and a driving under suspension charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 2. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Alyssa Millizer made an initial appearance on an unlawful passing of a school bus charge. Millizer pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

Incidents

• On Tuesday, a burglary of a motor vehicle was reported in the 200 block of North 13th Street.

• On Tuesday, a accident involving striking an unattended vehicle occurred in the 700 block of North Third Avenue.

• On Tuesday, a theft was reported in the 1900 block of South Center Street.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Narissa Jo Banks, 37, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine-first offense.

• On Tuesday, Sheila Kim Brown, 61, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Oscar Nunez-Cabrera, 26, was arrested for four counts of contempt of court/violation of a no-contact order, harassment-first degree, domestic abuse assault-serious, burglary-first degree and on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Sergio Ramirez-Rios, 50, was arrested for assault causing bodily injury.

• On Tuesday, Nicholas Welter Jr., 56, was arrested for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended and operating while under the influence-first offense.

Accidents

• On Friday, a minivan driven by Veronica Nyagak David Kuany, 38, of Marshalltown, was leaving from a parked position in the Marshalltown High School parking lot when it struck a concrete handicap pole with the passenger side of her vehicle. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Kuany minivan was estimated at $1,500.

• On Monday, a motorcycle driven by Tyler Fredrick Legg, 23, of Marshalltown, was traveling on Lincoln Way when the driver lost control, went off the road to the right on a curve and ran into the ditch wrecking the motorcycle. The driver left on foot leaving behind his hat, checkbook and cell phone. No injuries were reported. Legg was cited for failure to report an accident, driving while barred-habitual offender, failure to maintain control and operation without registration. Damage to the Legg motorcycle was estimated at $3,500.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, June 11, a pickup driven by Mario Almanza Velazquez, 52, of Gladbrook, was northbound on Sanford Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Almanza Velazquez pickup was estimated at $4,000.

• On Sunday, June 9, a vehicle driven by Maricela Chavarria Hernandez, 42, of Nevada, was westbound on Highway 30 when it struck a coyote that ran onto the road. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Chavarria Hernandez vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

• On Friday, June 7, a vehicle driven by Gerald Dale Hamilton, 72, of Marshalltown, was westbound on 120th Street when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Hamilton vehicle was estimated at $3,500.

• On Friday, June 7, a pickup driven by Ardell Kirk Starr, 68, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Marsh Avenue when it ran over a dead deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Starr pickup was estimated at $3,500.
