• John Demetrus Wallace made an initial appearance on a keeping a premises for the purpose of using or selling drugs charge, a keeping a vehicle for the purpose of using or selling drugs charge, a possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense charge, two counts of a failure to affix a drug tax stamp charge, two counts of a possession of a controlled substance with the intent to manufacture or deliver charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 10. Bond is set at $25,000 cash or surety. Should Wallace make bond, then he is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 72 hours of release to sign a pre-trial release agreement. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Quentin Mohammed Pendleton made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. Aron Vaughn is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

• Justin Caine Graves made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked or denied charge and a use of electronic communications device charge. Graves will hire his own counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 20. Graves is released on his promise to appear.

• Fernando Ervin Cole made an initial appearance on two counts of a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Cole is released on his promise to appear.

• Anthony James Shearer made an initial appearance on a voluntary absence from custody charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 10. Shearer is being held without bond.

• Naffry Manrriique Hernandez Cerna made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 20. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Eulalio Angel Angel made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Angel pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 3 in Magistrate Court.

• Stephanie Marie Kearnes made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a no insurance charge and a failure to obey a stop sign charge. Kearnes pleaded guilty to all charges. On the driving under suspension and the no insurance charge the fines are $250 with an $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 for each charge. The fine on the stop sign violation if $100 with a $35 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195. All payments are due within 30 days.

• A 15-year-old female made an initial appearance on a reckless driving charge, a failure to obey a stop sign charge, a no valid driver’s license charge and a failure to maintain control charge. She pleaded guilty to all counts. On the reckless driving, the stop sign violation and the failure to maintain control charges the fines are $100 with a $35 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195 for each charge. The fine on the no valid driver’s license charge is $200 with a $70 surcharge and 60 in court costs for a total of $330. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Erika Dawn Vaughn made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Vaughn pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 3 in Magistrate Court.

Marshalltown Police Department

Accidents

• On Thursday, a vehicle driven by Jesus Christian Morales, 22, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South Fifth Street at the intersection with West Boone Street when Morales pulled out in front of a car driven by David Antonio Marroquin, 19, of Marshalltown. Marroquin attempted to avoid contact, but collided with Morales sending his vehicle into a slid where it struck a legally parked Dodge pickup before rolling onto its side. Morales was transported to the UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown emergency room. Morales was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to the Morales vehicle was estimated at $6,000 while the Marroquin car and the Dodge pickup each sustained an estimated $500 in damage.

Arrests

• On Thursday, Justin Graves, 35, was arrested for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended.

• On Thursday, Seger Brown, 40, was arrested for trespass and theft-fifth degree.

Accidents

• On Friday, a car driven by Javier Sanchez-Sanchez, 42, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Highway 30 when a deer ran into the driver’s side door causing damage to the side mirror and the rear driver’s side wheel well. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Sanchez-Sanchez car was estimated at $1,500.

• On Tuesday, a car driven by Alexandria Marie Shadden, 22, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Reed Avenue when the driver believes she fell asleep at the wheel resulting in the car leaving the road to the right, driving through the ditch and then hitting a steep ditch causing the car to go airbourne across the roadway where it landed on the opposite of the road and rolled at least once before coming to a stop. No injuries were reported. Shadden was cited for driving under suspension, failure to maintain control and no insurance-accident. Damage to the Shadden car was estimated at $3,000.

• On Sunday, a cargo panel van driven by Stefan Alexander Bentley, 31, of Cedar Rapids, was southbound on Highway 330, transporting a patient to Des Moines, when it struck a deer that entered the roadway causing damage to the front passenger quarter panel. No injuries were reported. Damage to the panel van was estimated at $1,500.

May 26

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a special outside fire at 1010 S. Sixth St., a dispatched/cancelled en route to 205 N. Eighth Ave., a medical assist with the EMS crew to 206 S. Third Ave. and a rescue, EMS incident at 301 S. Fifth St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to 802 N. Fourth St. and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1400 Lincoln Tower Circle, 616 W. Boone St. and 207 N. 16th St.

May 24

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to 504 Iowa Ave. W and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 802 S. Center St., 303 S. First Ave., 1211 W. State St., 2009 W. Main St. and 2 N. Second Ave.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to 2009 W. Main St., a smoke detector activation due to a malfunction at 2 N. Second Ave., an authorized burning at 105 W. Webster St., a good intent call to 901 E. Nevada St. and 10 medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1002 S. Third Ave., 1516 E. Olive St., 1609 E. Nevada St., 8 N. Fifth Ave., 304 1/2 S. Second Ave., Sixth Avenue and Woodbury Street, 2009 W. Main St., 1603 Summit St., 1008 E. State St. and 514 E. Olive St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1701 W. State St., 1707 Laurel Drive, 1516 E. Olive St. and 1 W. Grant St.

May 21

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a removal of victims from stalled elevator at 502 Plaza Heights Road and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 203 S. Ninth St., 304 W. Meadow Lane, Sunset Trailer Court and 202 N. Second Ave.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a cancelled en route to 313 N. 16th St. and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 304 Nicholas Drive, 3202 S. 12th St., 514 E. Olive St., 122 W. Main St., 805 E. State St. and 306 S. Fourth Ave.
