• Kimberly Sue Kent made an initial appearance on a possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense charge, a theft-second degree charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and an allowing ann unauthorized person to drive charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 21. Kent was released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.
• Justin Carroll Deal, of Ames, made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a theft-second degree charge, a no valid driver’s license charge and a no seat belt charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 12. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.
• Cecilia Ann Howe, of Grundy Center, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Howe pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 24 in Magistrate Court.
• Eulalio Angel Angel made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a failure to maintain control charge. Angel pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 3 in Magistrate Court.
• Diana Montes Dirzo made an initial appearance on an unlawful passing of a school bus charge. Dirzo pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with an $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due by July 8.
• Alicia Alice Papakee made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Papakee pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 17 in Magistrate Court.
• Kasaundra Kaylyn Pemberton made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a no insurance charge. Pemberton pleaded guilty to the drug paraphernalia charge and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $282.75, due by July 8. The no insurance charge was dismissed with court costs of $60 assessed when proof of insurance was produced.
• Francisco Juavier Perdue made an initial appearance on a criminal mischief-fourth degree charge, a driving under suspension charge and a trespass-first offense charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 21. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.
• Shannon Schroeder, of Gladbrook, made an initial appearance on a no seat belt charge. Schroeder pleaded guilty and the fine is $50 with an $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50, due by Aug. 2.
