The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 23. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court.
• Giovani Leyva made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Leyva pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $37.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $347.50.
• Hunter Shane Smith made an initial appearance through counsel, Norma Meade, on an operating while under the influence-second offense charge and a careless driving charge. The preliminary hearing on the driving under the influence is set at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 23. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court. A pre-trial conference for the careless driving is set at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 21, 2026 in Magistrate Court.
