Paws & Effect

The First Annual Benefit Ride For Paws & Effect proved successful over the weekend. The fundraiser, designed to raise enough money to groom and train a service dog that might go toward a veteran in need, met its goal and provided a day and night of fun and enjoyment for those who participated. Organizers Herschel Edwards and Nick Salasek, said the event, which featured a motorcycle ride around Central Iowa, followed by a free will donation dinner, raffle, silent auctions and live entertainment at the American Legion Post 46 in Marshalltown, raised at least $14,800, not including some funds yet to come in. Salasek and Edwards are also planning a bike night event at Calvin Rockett Bar & Grill in Marshalltown on Thursday, Aug. 25, as a follow-up fundraiser for those who could not attend Saturday’s benefit.
