Foundation awards granted

The Community Foundation of Marshall County on Thursday presented grant awards to a number of entities for 2017.

Formed in 2005, the foundation has now granted more than $1 million in funds throughout Marshall County over the past 12 years, which includes the money granted for 2017.

This year’s recipients included:

Arts & Culture

• Central Iowa Art Association – Scholarship Funding for Youth Programs

• Central Iowa Fair Open Class – Photography Display Panels

• Central Iowa Quilt Sew-Ceity – Quilts of Valor

• Friends of the Orpheum Theater – Improving Sustainability

• Gutekunst Public Library – “One for the Books” Library Expansion Campaign

• Live on Stage – STAR Education Outreach Program

• Marshall County Arts & Culture Alliance – Linn Creek Arts Festival

Education

• Albion Municipal Library – Summer Programs

• Anson Elementary – Box Gardens/Family Engagement

• Boy Scouts – In School Scouting Program

• Marshall County 4-H – Franklin Garden Club

• Reach Out and Read – Age Appropriate Books Provided at Well-Child Visits

• Sea Cadets – Expansion of School-Based Opportunities

• STEP – Students Teaching and Empowering Philanthropy

Health

• House of Compassion – Safety Training and Equipment

• Marshall County 4-H – Community Youth Teaching Gardens

• Historical Society of Marshall County – Research Center Software and Computer Purchase

• CommonBond Communities – Enhancing Advantage Services at the Tallcorn

• Heart of Iowa Big Brothers Big Sisters – ACES Implementation

• Justice for Our Neighbors – Immigration Legal Clinic

Also during Thursday’s night ceremony, the foundation’s Community Foundation Builder Award was presented to Bettie Bolar, the former director of the foundation, who stepped down from that post in 2016.
