The Mid-Iowa Antique Power Association (MIAPA) will hold its 33rd annual Steam Threshing and Plowing Show from August 4-6 on county farm grounds, located eight miles west of Marshalltown at 2373 Jessup Ave.

“It’s just about the old-time way of farming in the early 1900s,” said Ron Veren, one of the event’s coordinators.

This year, three tractor bands will be showcased in a special exhibit: Oliver, Minneapolis-Moline and White Farm Equipment.

“All makes of tractors are welcome for the show — we’re just putting those three brands together to display because they are all under one company name now,” said Paul Sams, one of the event’s coordinators.

Each day of the show, various demonstrations will take place, weather permitting, including: potato plowing, horse plowing, tractor plowing, steam engine threshing, blacksmithing, corn shelling, kiddy pedal tractor pull, shingle mill, large sawmill and baling straw. A flea market, crafts and quilt show will also be offered.

“We expect to have well over 200-250 tractors at the show,” Veren said. “We get people from all over the United States.”

The MIAPA Parade of Power will be held at two times: Saturday, August 5 at 3 p.m., and Sunday August 6 at 2 p.m.

“The parade is a nice way for people to be able to sit and watch the tractors go by, especially for people who can’t do a lot of walking around looking at the displays,” Sams said.

An Oliver 60 tractor will be raffled off, with the winner announced after Sunday’s Parade of Power. Raffle tickets cost $2 each or six for $10, available from MIAPA members and at the event.

Food will be available for purchase from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day of the show, with breakfast specifically served from 7-9:30 a.m.

Live entertainment will be provided throughout the three-day event. The band Prairie Lightning will perform classic country tunes, beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday night. The BASICS (Brothers and Sisters in Christ Serving) will perform at the Sunday morning worship service, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Pastor Bud Kelly will lead the service.

Admission is a one-time charge of $8 per person (good for all three days). Those 12 and under get in for free. Parking is free. Campers are welcome. Plaques will be given to all exhibitors.
