Haverhill Days slated for July 29-30

Second annual event celebrates community pride

HAVERHILL — Art demonstrations, live music, food, games, classic cars and motorcycles and vintage tractors are just some of the activities the second annual Haverhill Days — spanning the weekend of July 29 and 30 — will offer.

“There’s quite a bit going on for these two days, and it’s essentially free,” said Missy Sharer-Pieters, one of the event’s coordinators.

Last year, Haverhill Days was brought back to the community after an over 20 year hiatus (it had previously been called the Haverhill Arts and Artisans Festival). The Haverhill Days planning committee has spent about a year’s time raising funds for the celebration, through hosting various events such as the HaverChill Days of winter activities, and a bourbon tasting night earlier this year.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, Art in the Park will run, offering the wares of local artisans and crafters. Also during that time slot, both days, will be blacksmith shop demonstrations.

Youngsters will have their own space to play in at the Kids Zone. Inflatable bounce houses, a ring toss, pudding eating contest, Oreo stacking contest, human tic-tac-toe and sack races will be offered.

On Saturday, a vintage tractor show will run, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $10 per tractor to enter, and prizes will be awarded. Also that day, will be a bags tournament for adults. For a cost of $30, teams will get to play, in either the A or B division. Sign up starts at noon, with the games starting at 1 p.m. Each division is a double elimination bracket.

From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., a live art exhibition will be conducted, in the parking lot of Haverhill Immaculate Conception Church. Eight area artisans will create their own version of the church, in their respective mediums.

“The artists will be camped out at the church and people can see them create their own masterpieces,” Sharer-Pieters said.

The artwork will be auctioned off during Sunday’s 3 p.m. live auction.

A Blank Park Zoo presentation in the park will begin at 2 p.m., featuring a variety of exotic critters.

Nate Nelson will perform live in concert from 2-6 p.m. A wine and beer tasting will be going on as well. From 8 p.m. to midnight, Lincoln Rockhouse will perform live in concert.

The fun will continue on Sunday, first with a farmers’ market, starting at 10 a.m., held at the Haverhill Immaculate Conception Church. There is no fee to participate. The emphasis will be on offering fresh produce.

The classic car and motorcycle show will run from noon to 5 p.m., with an entry fee of $10 per car. Prizes will be awarded.

Food vendors will include: Macubana, Lion’s Club, Maria’s Tacos, Sugarbox Treats, Scratch Cupcakery, Mountain Man Kettle Korn, Town House tenderloins and Willie’s BBQ.
