Gladbrook woman dies following accident

TIMES-REPUBLICAN

A Gladbrook woman has died following a collision earlier this week.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Marjorie Phillips, 89, was a passenger in a pickup truck that overturned following a traffic incident at about 8 a.m. Wednesday along the 1500 mile of Sanford Avenue, about one mile north of Highway 330.

Marshall County Sheriff Steve Hoffman said a vehicle driven by Waleed Parvez, 27, of Waterloo was southbound on the roadway attempting to pass a pickup truck and horse trailer when he met another vehicle driving northbound. Both Parvez’ vehicle and the northbound vehicle went onto the shoulder to avoid collision, but then Parvez’ car came back onto the roadway and struck the pickup truck, operated by William Young, 75, of Gladbrook, causing it to jackknife and overturn.

Young and three passengers, including Phillips, were all injured and subsequently transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown, where Phillips later died.

Hoffman said the incident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
