13th Street Harvest Market slated for Sept. 13

With autumn fast approaching, the 13th Street District will soon play host to its annual Harvest Market, which will run Wednesday, Sept. 13 from 5-7:30 p.m. along 13th Street, with free admission.

“We had great success with our first Harvest Market, back in 2015, and we’re excited to bring it back this year,” said event coordinator Christine Hunt. “Our goal is to provide a fun, family-friendly event to promote the 13th Street District, which has undergone a lot of revitalization in the last five years.”

Fall farm produce, baked goods and caramel apples will be available for purchase, as well as local food vendors.

“We are excited to have Garrett Goodman bringing his food truck, because he is soon to open his own restaurant in Marshalltown,” Hunt said.

Local artisans will also be on hand selling their wares, including jewelry, pottery and crafts.

“We tried to get artists of different backgrounds, so it should be an interesting mix,” Hunt added.

13th Street businesses will also have extended hours, and some will offer light refreshments.

Face painting for youth will also be available.

Classic rock band Inner Lite, which originated in Marshalltown, will perform.

To coincide with the market, the nearby Iowa Veterans Home, located at 1301 Summit Street, will host an open house. A self-guided tour of the home will take place from 4-6 p.m.

“We want to be part of the 13th Street District Committee’s current planning efforts and into the future,” said Commandant Timon Oujiri. “This open house will be a great opportunity to showcase our home to the community and speak to our history and mission.”
