Cardiologist to open local clinic
Estimated to open mid-October
A cardiologist will be joining the Marshalltown area medical community in approximately mid-October.
Dr. Kalyana Sundaram, director of cardiac services at Allen Hospital/UnityPoint-Waterloo and UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown, introduced himself at a recent Marshalltown City Council meeting.
“I am looking forward to providing cardiac care to Marshall County residents as well as those in surrounding counties. Additionally, I am also looking forward to being part of the Marshalltown downtown business community,” he said in a Aug. 29 email to the Times-Republican.
The building’s interior and exterior is currently being remodeled to meet Sundaram’s specifications. It previously housed dental offices.
In an effort to facilitate the ease of patients using the facility, the Marshalltown City Council voted unanimously at Aug. 28 and Sept. 11 meetings to vacate a north-south alley adjacent to 206 and 212 E. State St., and convey to Avita Properties, LLC.
Sundaram received his medical education at Madras
University; Madras, India MBBS, 1983, followed by residency at State University of New York Health Sciences Center;
Brooklyn, N.Y. Internal Medicine, 1993.
He was awarded a fellowship at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics; Iowa City, Cardiovascular Diseases, 1995, and also at Universiity of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Interventional
Cardiology, 1997.
Sundaram is board certified with American Board of Internal Medicine /Cardiovascular Medicine, 1997; and American
Board of Internal Medicine /Interventional Cardiology, 1999.
