Kamatchus nominated for U.S. Marshal post

Former Marshall County Sheriff Ted Kamatchus has been nominated by President Trump to serve as the U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Iowa.

Kamatchus, who recently retired as sheriff of Marshall County after serving in that role for 29 years, began his law enforcement career in 1977 as a police officer in Le Center, Minn., and went on to serve in police departments in Waterville and Saint Peter, Minn., as well as Marshalltown.

Kamatchus also served as president of the National Sheriffs’ Association from 2006-07, and president of the Iowa State Sheriffs and Deputies Association from 2000-01.

Kamatchus said he was honored by the nomination.

“Receiving the recommendation of our senators and gaining this nomination from the President of the United States is a humbling accomplishment. It truly will be the capstone of my career,” he said in a post on his Facebook page. “I want to sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart. Should the Senate approve me, I’ll be able to remain here in Marshalltown with my office based out of Des Moines.”
