A Marshalltown man is accused of assaulting a woman this past weekend.

According to Marshalltown Police Department Capt. Brian Batterson, authorities received a report of a domestic assault in the 200 block of 1st Avenue early Sunday morning.

Batterson said Brandon Edward Becker, 29, and a woman allegedly got into a dispute and Becker allegedly assaulted the woman, at one point put his hands and/or arm on her throat, making it difficult for her to breathe.

Officers arrested Becker and charged with him domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow.

The victim was not injured, Batterson said.

A preliminary hearing for Becker has been set for 1 p.m. Jan. 18 in Marshall County District Court.

He is currently being held at the Marshall County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond.
