Woman charged with theft of antiques

A Marshalltown woman was arrested and taken to Marshall County Jail earlier this week on charges of theft in the first degree and dependent adult abuse — exploitation of more than $100, according to Marshall County Sheriff Office and Marshall County District Court records. Desirae Corona, 19, was taken into custody by a deputy on a warrant issued by a Marshall County Magistrate. “The defendant had been given permission to be in a house, stole antiques and then sold them to an antique dealer for profit,” Chief Deputy Joel Phillips said. “The property was valued at more than $10,000. We expect more arrests in this case.”

The defendant later confessed to the theft. Magistrate Merrill Swartz released the defendant on her own recognize to be supervised by the Iowa Department of Corrections.

Her preliminary hearing is Aug. 17. Swartz also appointed a public defender to represent her.
