Times changed for Homecoming mini parade, carnival

There has been a slight change in timing for the Marshalltown High School Homecoming mini parade and the Cat’s Carnival next week, according to school district officials.

The Cat’s Mini Parade is now set to begin 5 p.m. Sept. 26. The Cat’s Carnival will start when the mini parade ends, estimated around 5:15 p.m. to 5: 30 p.m.

Both events are set to replace the traditional Homecoming Parade, which is on a hiatus for 2018 but will return in 2019. The mini parade will feature the entire MHS Homecoming Court astride Elmwood Country Club golf carts.

The mini parade route will begin near the corner of South Second Avenue and East Olive Street in front of Marshalltown High School, 1602 S. Second Ave. The procession will go east down Olive Street and then take a turn north onto the frontage road leading to the MHS sports complex area.

The sports complex area will play host to the first ever Cat’s Carnival, where kids and community members will have a chance to interact with various high school teams and clubs in celebration of Homecoming week.

Homecoming royalty will be decided Sept. 27 ahead of the Sept. 28 football game against Sioux City West. The Homecoming dance will take place 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 29 to wrap up the week.
