Woman charged with child endangerment-serious injury

A Marshalltown woman was arrested and taken to Marshall County Jail earlier this week on a criminal complaint and affidavit of child endangerment-serious injury filed by Marshalltown police.

According to Marshall County District Court records, Cierra Gaylynn Shivers, 31, allegedly left her four children — ages 5 through 15 — home alone. Her 10-year-old son burned his arm. The burn required medical attention in which the defendant attempted to treat herself. Upon investigation, it was determined the boy required two skin grafts which were performed at University of Iowa Hospitals.

Marshall County District Court Magistrate Barry Kaplan issued a non-contact order, meaning she cannot contact the victim. Kaplan also appointed the state public defender office to represent Shivers. She was released from jail with supervision. Her preliminary hearing is Oct. 17.
