Garwin man arrested for three counts child endangerment

Bratland

A Garwin man was arrested by Marshalltown police and taken to Marshall County Jail earlier this week on three criminal counts of child endangerment and one count of domestic abuse assault, according to documents filed in Marshall County District Court.

Chad Edward Bratland, 36, was taken into custody after officers were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of North First Street to check on a family dispute. Officers believed they had resolved the situation when they were called back again. The second call resulted in the discovery of a video detailing an assault.

One of four criminal complaints against the defendant said he assaulted the victim by hitting her, grabbing her and throwing her down. The defendant assaulted the victim in front of three children, which resulted in the child endangerment charges, Batterson said.

A Marshall County District Court Magistrate issued a no contact order, meaning the defendant can not contact the victims. The defendant also requested and was granted a public defender to represent him. Bratland’s preliminary hearing is Nov. 1.
